The user-replaceable battery in your AirTag is designed to last for around a year. But what do you need to do to replace the battery once it depletes? We'll walk you through the process so that you can get back to using it quickly.

Changing Your AirTag's Battery

There's no need to worry about the AirTag's battery depleting without you knowing. It's easy to check your AirTag's battery life using the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad.

You will also receive a notification from the app when your AirTag's battery is low and needs to be changed.

Your AirTag, its battery cover, and the battery itself are all choking hazards. So, make sure you replace your AirTag's battery while you're away from small children.

To start, place your AirTag's white side down on a flat surface where the stainless steel battery cover is visible. Press down on the battery cover and rotate it counterclockwise until it stops rotating. Then, remove both the cover and the battery.

You'll need to replace it with a fresh CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery available. These batteries are widely available at many stores and online. You can find a four-pack of CR2032 cells on Amazon, which is perfect if you own multiple AirTags.

As stated in Apple's Support document, some CR2032 batteries with bitterant coatings may not work with AirTags. So, it's best to avoid those when looking for a replacement battery.

Place the battery in your AirTag with the positive side facing you. You'll hear a chime once you twist the back cover to its original position to confirm that you've placed the battery in the AirTag correctly.

Now, take the battery cover and confirm that the three tabs on the battery cover are lined up with the three slots on your AirTag. Then, rotate the battery cover clockwise until it stops.

As you can see, changing your Apple AirTag battery only takes a minute or two. Hopefully, we helped you get the tracker back up and running so you can use it to find your belongings. Now that your tracker is sporting a fresh new battery, find out how to make your AirTags more useful.
