Amazon keeps track of where and when you installed its apps over the years. If you use Kindle for a long time and on different systems, the list of devices with the app could be extensive.

You can manage it by renaming and removing Kindle devices, either through your Amazon account or the Kindle mobile app. Here’s a simple guide on how to do it using both methods.

Why Rename or Remove Kindle Devices?

Leaving the list alone isn’t a big deal, but there are good reasons for managing it. Firstly, when you buy an ebook on the Amazon store and try to choose a Kindle device to send it to, having several vaguely named devices is confusing.

Apart from making the process more convenient, you’ll avoid mistakenly sending your purchase to an old device you don’t have anymore.

In terms of removing a Kindle device from the list, the action has the same benefits, but it’s also wise when giving an old phone or tablet to someone else. Then, they can add the device to their own Amazon list and won’t get books meant for you.

How to Rename and Remove Your Kindle Devices

You can either rename or remove your Kindle devices through the Amazon website or the mobile app.

Rename and Remove Kindle Devices via the Amazon Website

Managing Kindle Devices on Amazon Account
  1. Go to Amazon and click or hover over your Account & Lists button.
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Content & Devices. It might also be called Manage Your Content and Devices.
  3. A new page will open with various tabs. Go to Devices, where all the Amazon apps you’ve installed will appear.
  4. Click on the Kindle icon, and it’ll bring up a full list of devices you used it on.

To rename a device, select Edit right next to its current title. Just fill in the Device Name field with whatever you want and click Save.

To remove a device from the list, select the Deregister button instead.
