Buying a game only to discover it's not for you can be frustrating. Whatever the reason behind you requiring a refund, refunding a game on PS4 and PS5 is possible and usually plain-sailing. Here's how to get your money back on a PS4 or PS5 game.

PlayStation Refund Policy

Requesting a refund on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 requires that you are doing so within 14 days of making the purchase. You also need to have not downloaded or played the content prior to requesting the refund, unless you know the game to be faulty or having issues with bugs, for example, Cyberpunk 2077 when it was first released.

If you believe a game you've bought is faulty, make sure to double-check it's definitely the game and not something else, such as PlayStation 4 Wi-Fi issues. Sony handles refunds through the PlayStation website, via the live chatbot. The process is exactly the same whether you're on PS4 or PS5.

Refund a PS4 or PS5 Game Through Sony's Website

By following these simple steps, you'll be able to request a PlayStation refund. Before following the method, make sure you have your PSN ID, associated email address, date of birth, and the name of the game you'd like to refund.

  1. Head to the PlayStation Store Refund Request webpage.
  2. Verify that you are the owner of the PlayStation account associated with the requested refund by selecting Yes.
  3. Answer several questions pertaining to your refund, such as what you'd like to refund (ie a game or a subscription such as the game streaming service PS Now), why you're requesting a refund, and how many days it's been since you purchased the content.
  4. Make a note of the Support ID given to you.
  5. Select Next, and then Yes when asked if you'd like to speak to a live agent.

The live agent will then speak to you about your request and decide whether or not you're eligible for a refund. If the payment method you used to originally purchase the game can't be used for whatever reason (ie you've switched banks), then the refund value will be given to you as PSN store credit in your PlayStation wallet.

Now You Can Refund a PS4 or PS5 Game

By following these methods, you have hopefully been able to refund the PS4 or PS5 game that you were no longer interested in owning. That way you can spend the money on a different game instead!
