Regardless of the browser you use, you will often find yourself overwhelmed by dozens of open tabs. Luckily, Vivaldi has multiple features for managing your tabs.

Here, we'll take a look at how you can use and manage tabs in Vivaldi to help organize your browsing.

Grouping Tabs in Vivaldi

If you have multiple tabs open, it becomes difficult to navigate between them and find the one you need. To solve this issue, Vivaldi offers a tab grouping feature called Tab Stacking.

1. Stack the Tabs TogetherVivaldi Settings Page Tabs

While browsing on Vivaldi, you can simply drag and drop the tab over another tab to stack them. You can also stack tabs by selecting tabs while holding the Shift key, right-clicking on any of the selected tabs, and choosing Stack Tabs.

Moreover, Vivaldi lets you stack the tabs of the same websites by right-clicking any of the tabs and selecting Stack Tabs by Hosts. To easily identify tab stacks, you can rename them by double-clicking on them.

2. Experiment With Tab Stack StylesVivaldi With Two-level Tabs Stacks

Vivaldi offers three different styles of displaying tab stacks, namely Accordion, Compact, and Two-Level.

  • Compact: The Compact tab stack takes the same space on the tab bar as a normal tab. To switch tabs, you can click on the tab indicators on the top of the tab stack. Though it takes less space, the Compact tab stack makes it difficult to view all the open tabs.
  • Two-Level: As the name suggests, Two-Level tab stacks show a two-level tab bar. The top-level bar displays the tab stack, and the lower bar shows all the tabs within that stack. Although it reduces the available screen size, Two-Level tabs make navigation easier, as you can see the webpage titles and open the context menu for individual tabs.
  • Accordion: Accordion tab stacks expand when focused and collapse when inactive. When it's expanded, you can easily view all the tabs in the stack. Accordion tab style stands out because they neither make it difficult to read the titles nor take up extra space on your screen.

Viewing and Managing Tabs in Vivaldi

Vivaldi offers complete control over how your tabs are displayed and positioned. Here are a few different ways to view and manage your tabs.

1. Position Tabs VerticallyVertical Tabs in Vivaldi

One of the downsides of opening too many tabs is that you lose track of the open tabs and can't read their titles. To get around this problem, you can position your tabs vertically, either on the left or the right.

Though this makes reading titles easier, vertical tabs reduce the screen width. If you’re not a fan of vertical tabs, you can position them on the bottom as well.

2. Use Window Panel to Manage TabsWindow Panel in Vivaldi

Another way to view and manage the tabs is to open the Window Panel. The Window Panel gives you a hierarchical view of all the open tab and tab stacks.

With lots of tabs open, it can be challenging to navigate through them. There are a few ways for switching the tabs and finding the one you need.

Navigating the tabs through shortcuts can save a couple of seconds each time, increasing your productivity. Though there are some basic tab navigation shortcuts in almost every browser, Vivaldi stands out by offering dozens of shortcuts options.

First, you can view or set your own keyboard shortcuts by going to Settings > Keyboard > Tabs. There are shortcuts for switching to previous and next tabs, either in the order of tabs or by the most recent tabs.

Similarly, Vivaldi has keyboard shortcuts for jumping to any specific tab number. For example, you can switch to tab number eight by pressing CTRL + 8 or Cmd + 8.

Moreover, Vivaldi lets you navigate through tabs using Mouse Gestures. By using the predefined gesture or mapping your own, you can open, switch, stack, tile, and hibernate tabs. To set your gestures, go to Settings > Mouse > Gesture Mapping.

2. Search for Tabs

A quick way to see all the open tabs is to open Quick Commands by pressing F2 on Windows or Linux and Cmd + E on Mac. But if you’ve opened dozens of tabs, you won’t be able to view them all.

To search for your tabs, start typing the webpage title or the website name. Vivaldi keeps narrowing down the list as you type. This way, you can quickly find the tab you need without using your mouse.

3. Cycle TabsTab Cycler Vivaldi

Another way to quickly switch tabs through the keyboard is to use the Tab Cycling feature. Using this feature, you can move between tabs by pressing CTRL + Tab.
