Admit it—Animojis, or animated 3D versions of popular emojis, are cute. But if given a chance, you’re likely to choose for yourself an avatar that looks like you over a unicorn or a poop.

Apple introduced Memojis to iOS back in 2018, as an expansion to Animojis. Making your own Memoji is not limited to iPhones, though. You can create Memojis using your Mac as well. Here’s how.

How to Create a Memoji on Your Mac

Memojis are fully customizable 3D avatars that look like emojis. They are Apple’s version of personalized emojis, similar to Samsung’s AR Emoji and Snapchat’s Bitmoji.

Making a Memoji on a Mac

There are many nuanced features and characteristics for Memojis, from skin tone to hairstyle, to eyewear, to head shape, and even headwear. So you can easily make a Memoji that resembles you and matches your personality.

To create a Memoji on your Mac:

  1. Open Messages on your Mac and select any conversation.
  2. Click the App button in the bottom left of the window, then click the Memoji Stickers button.
  3. Click the Add (+) button.
  4. Go through each Memoji feature on the sidebar, such as Skin, Hairstyle, and Mouth, then choose from available options.

If you own more than one Apple device and sign in with the same Apple ID, any Memoji you make on one device will be synced across all your devices. No worries, though. You can always create more than one Memoji for yourself.

What Else Can You Use Memojis For?

Add emotion and personality to your messages by adding Memoji stickers before sending them to your friends. To do this:

  1. Open Messages, then select a conversation.
  2. Click the Apps button on the left side of the text field, then choose Memoji Stickers.
  3. Choose your Memoji from the avatars at the top, alongside other Animojis, then scroll down to select a Memoji sticker from the available options.

You can also use your Memoji to replace your face while on a FaceTime call with friends and family. However, this feature is only currently available on iPhones with Face ID.

Animate Yourself

Apple devices like Macs give you the ability to animate yourself without the need for third-party tools or apps. Use them to enhance, have some fun, and add a personal touch to your messages. They often allow you to express yourself in a way that texts alone can’t convey.
