Starz is a popular premium US television network. It offers a mix of original programming (both TV series and movies) as well as licensed content and exclusive first runs of films.

Even though a Starz subscription isn't free, you can still watch the content on the platform if you grab a free trial (and make sure you cancel your plan before the first charge is made.)

There are a few different ways to get a free Starz trial. Keep reading to learn more.

1. Free Trial of Starz on Roku

You can use your Roku device to get a free trial of Starz, but there are a few caveats.

Firstly, you need to be a new subscriber to the Starz service. If you have subscribed to Starz in the past, you will not be eligible. You can get around this restriction by making a new Starz account and using a different credit card (perhaps a spouse's or sibling's) to make the payments.

Secondly, you need to sign up via the Starz app on the Roku device. The Starz app does not come pre-installed on a new Roku, so you will need to download and install it (for free) from the Roku Channel Store. You can perform the process from your Roku device or via the Roku Channel Store web interface.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Comcast/Xfinity does not allow its subscribers to log into the Starz channel on their Roku device. If you use Comcast as your ISP, you will be out of luck (and frankly, you should probably start looking for a new ISP as soon as possible.)

2. Free Trial of Starz on Amazon Prime

If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, you will have free access to Amazon Prime Video included within your plan (along with many other great Amazon Prime benefits.)

Many people do not realize that Amazon Prime Video is more than an on-demand streaming service; you can also use the app to watch free live TV and subscribe to premium TV channels. One of the premium channels available is Starz.

Sadly, although Amazon has offered a free Starz trial via its video service for a couple of years, the promotion ended in the late summer of 2021. It has been replaced with a new deal that lets you grab the first month of a Starz subscription for just $0.99. So sure, it's not free, but the amount of content that you will be able to binge-watch in one month before you need to cancel makes the deal more than worthwhile.

Of course, Amazon Prime itself does still offer a 30-day free trial before the regular price of $13/month kicks in, meaning the whole endeavor will cost just the $0.99 fee.

3. Free Trial of Starz on FuboTV

Another way to get a free trial of Starz is to sign up for FuboTV. Indeed, there are two ways to get a free trial of Starz via the service.

Firstly, Fubo itself offers a free trial to all new users. The free trial includes access to the entire FuboTV list of products and add-ons, of which Starz is a part. Therefore, by signing up for a Fubo free trial, you will automatically get a free trial of Starz included. The regular price of the basic Fubo package after the free trial ends is $65/month.

However, you can also get a free trial of Starz even if you are already a Fubo subscriber, as long as you have not signed up to Starz via the Fubo service in the past. You can use the free trial to watch all the Starz originals and Hollywood movies that are on the main Starz platform.

Better yet, once the free trial of Starz via Fubo expires, you will still benefit from a reduced price of just $5/month for the first three months. This makes Fubo one of the most attractive ways to grab a free trial of Starz if you are planning to become a customer long-term.

4. Free Trial of Starz on Hulu

The final service that offers a free trial for Starz is Hulu. Unfortunately, it is the shortest free trial out of all the methods we have looked it; it lasts just one week rather than the standard 30 days.

Like the other apps, you need to be a new Starz subscriber via Hulu to take advantage of the offer. If you have used Starz on Hulu in the past, you will not be eligible.

The best aspect of watching Starz via Hulu is Hulu's underlying price. You can apply the free trial to Hulu's basic $6/month plan and is thus a considerably cheap option than watching via Amazon Prime Video or Fubo.

Remember, since Hulu is available on a Nintendo Switch, it is also a great way to watch Starz if that is your gaming platform of choice.

Can You Get a Free Trial for Starz on the Official Website or Apps?

At the time of writing, it is not possible to get a free trial for Starz directly from the official website/smartphone apps.

Instead, you can take advantage of the company's special offer, which provides access to three months of service for just $3/month. Once the special offer lapses, your plan will revert to the regular price of $9/month.

Of course, this offer is liable to end at any time. Free trials on the Starz website have been available in the past. There's a good chance they might return for the holiday season, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.

What Happens Once a Free Trial Expires?

Regardless of which method you use to get your Starz free trial, the trial will convert to a paid plan at the end of the 30-day trial period.

Therefore, if you want to avoid having the charge sent to your credit card, it is important to make sure you hit the cancel button before the 30-day cut-off.

To cancel your free trial if you used an app-based sign-up method (such as Roku), you will need to head to the official Starz website and log into your account. If you signed up for your free trial via an add-on to another service, you need to use the parent service's account management interface.

Sign Up to Starz and Get More TV

No matter which method you use, it is worth getting a free trial of Starz. Some of the best shows on the service include Outlander, Power, Black Sails, and Party Down.

If you binge-watch those four series, you won't want to cancel your Starz free trial when the time comes.
