With the chaos over at X, formerly Twitter, in late 2022 and throughout 2023, other social platforms have been popping up to take its place. One of these is Bluesky Social, a social media app very similar to X that many users are loving so far.

The only problem is that signing up to use Bluesky is not so simple, as there is currently a long waitlist. However, there's a second way of securing a spot on Bluesky, and it all comes down to who you know.

How to Get on Bluesky Social

There are a lot of Twitter alternatives to choose from, but Bluesky has the support of a former head of Twitter Jack Dorsey, who sits on the Board of Directors. There are three ways to get a Bluesky invite code; here are the options...

1. Join the Waitlist Online

You can put yourself on Bluesky’s waitlist to join by going to the Bluesky website, clicking Create a New Account, selecting Bluesky (default), and clicking Join the Waitlist. This can help you get into the beta version before Bluesky goes live publicly. There is no official word on how long it takes to get on the platform from the waitlist, it could take weeks or even months.

You will get an email when it’s your turn to come off of the waitlist, so make sure you are watching your inbox!

2. Get a Bluesky Social Invite Code From an Existing User

The faster way to get on Bluesky early is by getting an invite code from a current user. Users get a code to invite others to the app that they can use however they want.

You need to find someone that already has an account and is also willing to share their invite code with you. So, if you're desperate to start using Bluesky, start asking your friends if they are on there yet.

3. Join Through Another Hosting Provider

If you have a link to another hosting provider, you can paste it in to create your account. However, this is not really an option for most people, since most users will want to join the default Bluesky instance.

4. Search Other Social Media For an Invite Code

If you don't personally know anyone on Bluesky, and you want to get on the platform fast, it is definitely worth checking other social media to see if anyone is sharing codes. Some users have been sharing their invite codes on X and other sites.

Reddit even has entire threads dedicated to sharing Bluesky invite codes. Some good online researching should allow you to find a functioning code. It may take some time to find though, since the codes are in such high demand.

Waiting for Bluesky Social to Open Up

There is still a chance that you may end up just waiting until the platform launches to the public. There is no official launch date yet, but with beta testing already underway, you shouldn't have to wait very long to join Bluesky.
