It’s always awkward when you wake up the next day from a wild Switch party and don’t remember anything from the night before. It’s even worse when you find that your favorite controllers are missing, especially if you have no idea which of your friends last had their hands on them.

Thankfully, Nintendo is five steps ahead of you. The Switch has a built-in feature that lets users locate lost controllers by activating the vibrate function remotely. While it still requires some walking and searching, it’s definitely useful.

If you’re wondering how you can find your missing Switch controllers without interrogating everyone, keep reading.

Steps to Find Missing Switch Controllers

Switch - Search for Controllers

For this method to work, your missing controller needs to remain paired with your Switch and have enough battery to vibrate. To call out to your controllers from the wild, open up your Switch and tap the Controller icon. Next, select Search for Controllers.

Switch - Search for Controller Icons

On the next screen, you will see all the paired controllers to your Switch. Tap the controller icon of the one that you are missing and would like to find. Then, walk around and listen to the vibrating sound.

Take note you will need to tap the icon of the controller you are looking for continuously as you search. Once you remove your finger, the vibrate function will cease to work. You can ask a trusted friend to tap it for you while you prowl the premises for your controllers.

Keep Your Enemies Close but Your Switch Controllers Closer

Switch Joy Con

Whether it’s the out-of-the-box Joy-Con or the Pro, it’s still annoying to lose any controller. While they’re not without issues, it’s not fun to have to buy a new one. Switch parties can make it easy to swap similar-looking controllers with other people.

If you’re hoping to prevent this from happening again, consider making yours stand out from the crowd by customizing them.
