The YouTube comments section is a great way to connect creators and other viewers. But YouTube comments have a bad rap for degenerating into pointless arguments and spammy responses.

If you ever want to remove a comment you left on a YouTube video, you can always delete it. There's also a way to delete every comment you've ever made on YouTube. Whether you're avoiding sparring in the comments section or trying to erase your online footprint, here's how to delete YouTube comments.

How to Delete a YouTube Comment

It’s super easy to delete your comments from any YouTube channel. You can delete the comment directly from the video's comments section. This mostly applies when you’re trying to delete a recent comment. Here’s how:

  1. Go to YouTube.com and search for the video in your Watch History or by using the search bar and open the comments section. Your comment should show up among the first few you see.
  2. Tap the three dots next to the comment, and select Delete. You'll see a text box confirming that your comment has been deleted.

This method won't always work on older comments because they'd have been mixed up among thousands of others, so it'll be harder to find and delete them. That leads us to the second method of deleting YouTube comments.

How to Delete YouTube Comments From Your Comments History

YouTube keeps a record of all the comments you’ve ever made on your account. You can also use the Comments History page to manage and delete any comment you want.

To access your Comments History,

  1. Open YouTube on a desktop browser.
  2. Click on the three horizontal lines in the top left of the page to open the left-side menu, then select History from the sidebar.
  3. On the next page, select Comments from the right sidebar under Manage All History.
  4. You'll be redirected to your Comment History, where you'll see all your comments from your account. They'll appear from newest to oldest, and you can scroll down to find the specific comment you want to delete.
  5. When you find it, click the blue link (or the video title) at the bottom of your comment to be directed to the video on which you dropped the comment.
  6. Your comment will appear as a highlighted comment at the top of the comments section. Click the three dots on the right side of your comment, and select Delete from the pop-up menu.
  7. You’ll see a text box confirming that your comment has been deleted.

These steps will work on your favorite browser, but there's also a way to edit and delete YouTube comments on your smartphone.

How to Delete All Your YouTube Comments at Once

If you’re trying to reduce your digital footprint, you might want to delete all the YouTube comments you've ever made. Although YouTube doesn't provide a straightforward method to do this, a loophole in one of its features makes it possible.

YouTube allows you to hide your channel, which makes your content, subscriptions, likes, and your name invisible in search. You can re-enable your hidden channel anytime and make your content available to the public if you wish.

But hiding your channel has one unintended effect: you also delete all YouTube comments you've made from your account. So a quick way to delete all the YouTube comments you've ever made is to hide your channel for a few minutes and re-enable it.

Here’s how to do that:

  1. Go to YouTube and tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.
  2. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. Next, select Advanced settings.
  4. Scroll down and select Delete channel. You may have to verify your identity to proceed. Don’t worry; YouTube will not erase your account as soon as you click this option.
  5. You’ll be directed to your Google Account page, where you should select I want to hide my channel.
  6. Tick the three checkboxes to confirm your decision, then click Hide my channel at the bottom of the tab.

To reactivate your YouTube channel, sign in to YouTube with your Google account. Next, go to the create a channel page and fill in the form with your old details. Your YouTube channel will be restored, and you can make your content viewable again in Video Manager.

Take Control of the Conversation

Conversations online don’t always go the way you expect. Whenever things go south in a YouTube video’s comment section, it’s comforting to know that you can always delete YouTube comments and shut down any conversation that makes you uncomfortable.
