Previously, if you got carried away while uploading a carousel of images on Instagram but later regretted posting one of them, you'd be stuck. You would either have to delete the post (the entire carousel of images) or just let it be.

Fortunately, for us who take our Instagram feed very seriously, Instagram has paved the way out of this dilemma.

Here's how to delete just a single image from an Instagram carousel.

When you upload multiple images on Instagram, you can easily remove one from the bunch without needing to delete the entire post.

The feature is quite easy to use. Here are a few simple steps with which you can delete an image from a carousel of images:

  1. Tap on the three dots on the top right of the post. This will open a menu displaying various options.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Now when you swipe through the images, you will notice a small trash can icon on the top left of each picture. When you come across the picture you want to remove, simply tap on this. Note that if your post has a lengthy caption, you'll need to swipe down to view the top left corner of your images.
  4. Choosing Delete will successfully remove the picture from the carousel. Instagram will display a popup confirming the deletion. You can delete multiple images from a carousel.
  5. Once you've removed all unwanted images, tap Done in the top right to save your changes.

If you later want to restore deleted Instagram images back to your carousel, you can do it.

Limits to the Feature

As of May 2023, you can't delete a single photo from a carousel post on Instagram for Android; the feature is only available for iOS devices. If you follow the steps above, you'll notice there's no option to save your changes after deleting an image from an Instagram carousel.

However, since the feature has been highly requested by Instagram users in the past, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has relayed to the press that the feature will make its way onto Android devices.

Undoubtedly, the feature will come in handy but to maximize its use, Instagram's developers should roll out an update that is not only supported on Android but also lets users remove multiple images.

Until the feature is fully functional on Instagram for Android, you can adapt by leveraging a couple of tips to make your Instagram photo dump great so you don't have to delete some images later on.

More Updates Planned For Instagram

Instagram has a number of updates planned for its app to improve its usability and customer satisfaction. Hopefully, future updates will include support for deleting images from a carousel on Android and other user-friendly changes.
