Music preferences continuously change. You might be jamming to a given song right now, and the following week you're on to the next one. However, what if you can take a snapshot of your current favorite songs and listen to them in the future? You can do it thanks to Spotify's Playlist in a Bottle feature.

What Is Spotify's Playlist in a Bottle?

Playlist in a Bottle is a feature on Spotify that lets users select songs they'd like to be reminded about a year later. This is different from Spotify Wrapped, which shows you your top songs and artists in the past year. With Playlist in a Bottle, you're in control of what to add to your playlist by answering several questions.

How to Create Your Playlist in a Bottle on Spotify

Excited to get started? Follow these steps to create your Playlist in a Bottle:

  1. On your mobile device, go to spotify.com/playlistinabottle. This link will open inside Spotify's mobile app. Select Get Started.
  2. Next, Spotify will take you to a page from where you can select what to put your playlist in. The first choice is an actual bottle, but you can swipe left or right or use the navigation buttons at the bottom to change your selection.
  3. Tap Next when you're done.
  4. On the next page, Spotify displays several questions. You need to answer at least three questions, and there is a variety to choose from. You can change the question by tapping New Question.
  5. If you'd like Spotify to give a suggestion, tap the Random button. Otherwise, enter a song name to answer the question. Spotify will display songs that match your search term below the search bar. Tap on the song that you want to select.
  6. When you're finished, tap Next. After you've answered at least three questions, you can select Keep Going to answer more or select I'm Done to finish.
  7. On the next page, you can add songs by tapping Add Songs or selecting Lock in to lock your playlist away.

When you're finished, tap Share to share your card on social media if you want, or tap the back arrow in the upper left to go back to Spotify's app homepage.

How Does Spotify's Playlist in a Bottle Work?

After sealing off your Playlist in Bottle, Spotify will remind you of it a year later. You can only create one Playlist in a Bottle. Additionally, Spotify will close access to the feature after January 31, 2023, so everyone who makes their playlist will be reminded of it at the same time in January 2024.

The feature is free, so you won't lose access even after you cancel your Spotify Premium subscription. Unlike a regular playlist, Playlist in a Bottle is different since you don't just add random songs. Instead, these songs have a theme. Otherwise, you can still create a Spotify Playlist anytime you want.

Store Your Favorite Songs for the Future

Playlist in a Bottle is an excellent way to store songs you'd like to listen to in the future. By following the steps above, you can add songs attached to different themes, and Spotify will remind you that you need to open your playlist in 2024.
