Some of us like the simpler things of life: an unorganized Instagram feed, wired earphones, or minimalist iPhone wallpapers. If you prefer a super minimalist iPhone wallpaper, you should consider making your Home Screen blank. Sometimes, app icons can clutter your iPhone Home Screen and that’s just not the relaxing first page you’d like to see when you unlock your device.

In this article, we’ll go over four ways to create an empty Home Screen on your iPhone. All the steps are easy and straightforward, so you’ll get your desired results immediately.

1. Remove Apps From the Home Screen One by One

The simplest way to create blank Home Screen on your iPhone is to move all the apps on the Home Screen to the next page. Here’s how to do that:

  1. First, long press on any app on the Home Screen and select Edit Home Screen. This should activate jiggle mode.
  2. Once jiggle mode is activated, move app icons on the first Home Screen to the next screen by dragging them one after the other to the right edge of your iPhone.
  3. After this, your Home Screen should be completely empty and you can enjoy the clean, decluttered welcome that a blank home screen offers.

2. Fill Your iPhone Home Screen With Invisible App Icons

An alternative way to customize your iPhone Home Screen is to create invisible icons. To do that, you would need to take a screenshot of an empty page, create blank icons, and download the end result as your wallpaper. In other words, what you’re doing is creating app icons using different pieces of the screenshot you took. That way, the icons will seem to "disappear" into the wallpaper because it’s cut from the same cloth.

Let’s see how to do that:

  1. Activate jiggle mode on your iPhone by pressing down on any icon on your Home Screen.
  2. Swipe right until you get to an empty page.
  3. Take a screenshot of the empty page using the appropriate buttons.
  4. Next, find and use a tool that makes blank iPhone icons. We recommend iEmpty for its ease of use, and the next steps will be instructions to use the tool. Alternatively, you could use the Makeovr tool to create invisible icons.
  5. Scroll down the page and select Add Empty Icons.
  6. On the next screen, scroll down to the Your screenshot section and select Choose File to upload the screenshot you took initially.
  7. Click Send. Double check to make sure that you see a preview of your screenshot before sending the file.
  8. On the next page, scroll to the Options section and generate your icons using the Bookmark option.
  9. Scroll down to see a grid of icons with your wallpaper in the background. Here, you can select any of the icons and use the share button to add it as a bookmark to your Home Screen. You can repeat this process for as many icons on your Home Screen as you want.

If you change your wallpaper often, you’ll probably find this method a bit tedious. So, let’s check out another way to empty your Home Screen.

3. Use Widgets to Quickly Empty Your iPhone Home Screen

With iOS 14, you can skip the trick of uploading your wallpaper to certain websites and downloading empty icons. Here, you have two options: either use a Siri suggestion or a transparent widget app.

The following steps will guide you through using the Siri suggestions widget:

  1. First, make sure your iPhone has the Shortcuts app installed. If it doesn’t, go ahead and download it from the App Store.
  2. Enter jiggle mode by pressing down on an empty area on your current home screen.
  3. Swipe right until you reach an empty page. Then tap on the plus (+) button in the top-left corner.
  4. Add three Siri suggestion widgets to your Home Screen.
  5. Ensure you’re still in jiggle mode and tap on the dots above the dock.
  6. Unselect all the pages except the one with the Siri suggestion widgets.
  7. Tap Done to exit jiggle mode, then remove all the three Siri suggestion widgets you added.

That’s it! You have a blank iPhone Home Screen that lets you appreciate your wallpaper. If you want to further personalize your Home Screen, you can download custom app icons The downside to this method is that you’re limited to only one Home Screen page. To access your apps, you’ll need to use the Spotlight search or your iPhone App Library.

4. Add Transparent Widgets to Create a Blank Home Screen

For the transparent widget method, here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, download and install TWid from the App Store.
  2. Activate jiggle mode by pressing down on an empty area of the Home Screen.
  3. Swipe right till you reach an empty page.
  4. Capture a screenshot of the empty page.
  5. Open the TWid app on your iPhone and select the screenshot. It should appear in the middle of the app.
  6. Return to your Home Screen and reactivate jiggle mode.
  7. In the top left, tap on the plus (+) button and search for the TWid widget.
  8. Add widgets and adjust the images as you please, using the edit widget option.

The TWid app is great because it automatically refreshes each widget whenever you update your wallpaper in the app. This means you still have to upload a new blank Home Screen screenshot in the app, but it will do the rest. If you don’t get an automatic update, tap Settings > Refresh Widgets in the app and all should be synced.
