Are you thinking about transferring your website to WordPress.com? If so, there’s more to think about than just your web address.

If you have a Google Workspace subscription that's connected to another host, your emails will also be affected after the transfer. This could disrupt your workflow if you aren’t prepared.

Ready to transfer from another web host to WordPress? Here’s how you can make sure that your Google Workspace Gmail service isn’t disrupted.

Why You Need to Keep Email in Mind When Switching Your Web Server

When you bought your website domain, chances are you didn’t think too much about your emails. But when you buy a Google Workspace subscription through a reseller, you’re tied to that web provider’s servers.

If you later choose to transfer your website to another domain host, you need to follow similar steps with your emails. If you don’t move your emails to the other server, your account will stop working.

Before you change your Google Workspace subscription over, you’ll need to shift your website domain. To do this, you’ll need to unlock it and verify that you’re the owner. Once you’ve transferred your domain and it’s live, you can move your email over too.

How to Transfer Your Google Workspace Email to WordPress

How you transfer your Google Workspace subscription will depend on the host you’re switching to. In this case, we'll show you how to transfer it to WordPress.

  1. Sign in to your WordPress.com account.
  2. Go to Manage > Domains.
    wordpress management settings
  3. Choose the domain you want to connect with your account

  • MX Server Address: ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Priority: 5
  • ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Priority: 5
  • ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Priority: 10
  • ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Priority 10

After typing in all of these records, scroll down to Type > MX. Enter the number one in the Priority space. From here, select Add New DNS Record.
