Many of us go hours mindlessly scrolling through Instagram every single day. When done right, it can be an incredibly self-soothing experience—with Instagram being one of the best places on the internet to find a lot of positive content.

However, when done wrong, we can also get into a toxic rabbit hole. We end up searching for content that doesn’t just mess with our algorithm, but also shows up every time we type something on the search bar.

Luckily, you can get rid of this pretty easily. You'll find out how to clear your Instagram search history in this article.

Steps to Clear Your Instagram Search History

If you’re wondering how to hide the embarrassing and oddly specific content you binge when it's past midnight and you can't sleep, here is a quick way to clear your Instagram search history.

While Instagram does not give the option to clear your search history directly from your app, it is possible from your browser. To do this, go to Instagram and log into your account.

IG Web Log-In

After signing in, click on your profile picture. Then, go to Settings > Privacy and Security.

IG View Account Data

Next, under Account Data, click View Account Data. Then, under Account Activity, go to Search History and select View All. From here, you can see the accounts, locations, or hashtags that you have recently searched.

Lastly, click Clear Search History. Confirm your decision on the popup by selecting Clear All.

Aside from this, there are plenty of other cool Instagram features that you can make use of to make Instagram work better for you. It’s important to remember that the accounts you have previously searched may still appear as suggested results. However, deleting it from your search history erases the possibility that it will appear when you use your search bar.

Keep Your Instagram Searches Private

Instagram is a great place to spend hours watching quality content. However, not everyone needs to know what embarrassing corner of the internet you were on when you first meet them.

Deleting your search history is also one way to tell Instagram that you’re no longer interested in this particular type of content. If you avoid searching for it again, you can teach Instagram to stop showing you related content and give you more of the stuff you do want.
