Emojis have successfully established themselves as an integral part of our digital lives; they allow us to connect and express ourselves better. It is no secret that without them, our digital conversations packed with life and color would look bland. Microsoft Rolls Out New Redesigned Emojis
In a move that has been met with more criticism than praise from the internet, Microsoft has unveiled a whole new set of emojis in a post on the Windows Blog. The software giant penned them in for a Windows 11 update this winter–and they are nothing like how we anticipated them to be.
The new update includes the new emojis Microsoft promised us back in July; however, the company has changed the 3D look it previously previewed on its design blog. The company has now settled for a 2D approach for Windows 11, whereas, the more visually appealing 3D emojis may be reserved for things like Flipgrid, Microsoft Teams, etc., providing exclusive access to its users.
How Do the New Windows 11 Emoji Differ From the Older Ones?
According to Microsoft, the new Fluent style emoji feel familiar and personal, adhering to the Windows 11 design principles. However, the two major differences that we've observed are the absence of bold and black outlines around the emojis, and the revival of Clippy from the dead.
Additionally, all emojis in the Windows 11 emoji picker look relatively brighter, livelier, and more saturated than their Windows 10 twin.
How to Get Hold of the KB5007262 Update
To make use of the newly released and redesigned set of emojis, you will have to manually download the update KB5007262 for Windows 11. All you have to do is visit Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click on Check for updates. Select Download & install, and you're good to go.
Once the update has finished downloading and installing itself, you can enjoy Microsoft's latest set of emojis by pressing the Win + Period key. This will prompt open a box of emojis on your screen.
Unfortunately, if you're a Windows 10 user, this one's not for you. Microsoft's confirmed how this update will be strictly available for Windows 11 users only.
A New Set of Faces for Windows 11
While the new Windows 11 emoji don't look like what was originally promised, they have a nice clean look to them nonetheless. And while Windows 10 users got left out, they can continue enjoying the old emoji picker that comes with the operating system.
