MyHeritage has announced a new AI tool called LiveStory, which animates dead people's faces and mouths to look like they are narrating a story. The feature is both cool and creepy, so it is definitely not for everyone.

LiveStory is yet another AI-powered feature to be launched by MyHeritage. If you're interested in looking at how LiveStory works, read on.

MyHeritage Launches New AI Tool Called LiveStory

Genealogy company MyHeritage has debuted a new feature dubbed LiveStory, which uses artificial intelligence, to animate a dead person's face and mouth, so it looks like they are talking. LiveStory is a notch higher from Deep Nostalgia, another cool yet creepy feature introduced in 2021.

Deep Nostalgia allows users to animate pictures of their deceased loved ones, making them nod, look around, blow kisses, and even smile. In case you are wondering how, here's a step-by-step guide on how to use MyHeritage's AI tool to animate old photos.

And if you thought that was creepy, then you're not ready for LiveStory.

LiveStory goes a mile further by animating pictures of dead relatives, enabling them to look like they are telling a story. Narrations are accompanied by photos which make the whole feature interesting as shown in the YouTube video below.

You can download, watch and even share LiveStory videos with your close kin and even on social media. However, for the latter, beware that these types of videos are not for everyone.

Like Deep Nostalgia, LiveStory is a collaboration between MyHeritage and D-ID, a company that uses AI and Deep Learning to transform pictures into videos.

How MyHeritage's New LiveStory AI Tool Works

According to MyHeritage, LiveStory first converts text to high-quality audio using text-to-speech technology. After that, D-ID's reenactment technology kicks in to animate the person's face and mouth to speak the video by simulating lip sync.

LiveStory supports 31 languages and 152 different voices at the time of launch, so you have a wide variety to pick from.

How to Create a LiveStory in MyHeritage

To get started with LiveStory, you'll need to create an account with MyHeritage via its website. Alternatively, you can use the app on Google Play or Apple's App Store.

Once you have an account, all you need to do is upload necessary photos and write a script (in first person) that the AI will read.

If you already have a family tree in MyHeritage, you don't need to upload new photos. And since MyHeritage already has some background information, it will automatically generate a video using those details.

However, you can still edit the text or customize the video by including more pictures if you need to. LiveStory is free to use, but you can only generate a handful of videos. Unlimited access is available via MyHeritage's $240-a-year MyHeritage Complete plan subscription.

Is MyHeritage's Latest Feature Cool or Creepy?

There's definitely an element of impressiveness to MyHeritage's LiveStory feature, in the technical achievement behind the feature. But the question remains whether or not it's a bit creepy to reanimate photos of passed loved ones and make them talk.
