HBO Max is one of the best premium streaming services on the market. With a growing user base and a global presence, it's important to know exactly how the platform works and how you can get the most of it.

We're particularly interested in exactly how many people can watch HBO Max at once and how exactly we can HBO Max users manage their profiles and accounts.

How Many People Can Watch HBO Max at Once?

We all know that being able to watch content on lots of devices at once is essential for any streaming service. While we're sure that all platforms have a password sharing problem like Netflix does, more commonly, the problem about simultaneously watching content on multiple devices revolves around making sure your entire family gets to watch whatever they want. So, how many devices can HBO Max users use at the same time?

HBO Max allows a maximum of three simultaneous streams, which is enough for you to watch your blockbuster, your spouse to keep up with their favorite show, and your kids to watch any show their heart desires.

We do have to mention that you can create and manage up to five HBO Max profiles, including kids' profiles. Simply make sure not everyone uses the account at the same time.

How to Check Which Devices Are Using HBO Max

If someone else is using your account and you suddenly get slammed with a warning that you're streaming on too many devices, there are a few things you can do.

First of all, one important thing you must do is to check who is using your account. Here's how you can do this.

  1. Sign in to your HBO Max account on your phone, tablet, or computer.
  2. On your mobile device, you have to tap the Profile icon in the bottom right corner, and then the Settings icon in the top left corner. On your computer, simply click on the Profile icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Go to Manage Devices. This option is unavailable on kids' profiles, so make sure you're on the right profile.
  4. Check the list of devices that you're logged on. It will tell you when you last used HBO Max on any specific device.

  5. It will also tell you exactly the number of devices using your HBO Max account, so you'll know to stop any one of them before restarting your stream.

How to Manage HBO Max Users' Accounts

Should any of the devices currently streaming HBO Max belong to someone other than you, or you simply want to cut off contact with one of your devices, you can always remove them from your list.

Should you suspect a breach of your account, we recommend signing out of all your devices and changing the password of your account.

Here's how you can sign out of specific devices:

  1. Sign in to your HBO Max account and go to your Profile.
  2. Go to Manage Devices.
  3. Choose the device you want to sign out of your HBO Max account and click the X button.
  4. You'll then be prompted to confirm you want to sign out of the HBO Max account on that specific TV, mobile app, or browser. Click Sign Out.

It can take up to four hours before the device loses access to your account.

Alternatively, you can also sign out of all devices. This is particularly useful if you cannot identify all of the devices on your list or you think your account is being used without your permission. Here's how you can sign out of all devices:

  1. Log into your HBO Max account and go to Profile > Manage Devices.
  2. Below the icon with the device you're currently using, there's a button that says Sign All Devices Out. Click the button.
  3. You'll be asked to confirm your choice. Click Sign Out.

The changes can take up to four hours to go into effect. Also, if you've signed out of your account for security purposes, make sure you also change your password.

HBO Max Users Are Limited for a Reason

We know that having a limited number of devices on HBO Max can be annoying, but there are quite a few reasons for doing so. First of all, households usually only need three or four simultaneous streams due to the average number of members. Second of all, keeping the number down ensures account owners won't share their passwords with other people outside their homes so as not to run the risk of being unable to stream content when they feel like it.
