I'm fixing a computer and no programs will open, no matter how many times I click them.
I know the computer has a virus, and I'm trying to remove it. I thought I did with Malwarebytes but I guess it was not removed, because it is connected to the Internet, but it doesn't open programs or anything.
It won't open Chrome, Skype, Internet Explorer, My Computer or Control Panel. Please help.

Here is an other way to do it.You can get a copy of F-Secure Antivirus for free which scans your pc and removes all the virus and other stuff. After that You can normally boot your pc,trust me.

great what was your solution?
2013-12-08 23:42:38
Yes I have been able to. Thank you for asking.

Cristián, have you been able to sort this out? If so, how? If not, I'd go with the bootable virus cleaning kit approach suggested by Dalsan and Jan. You can download these systems onto a CD or USB drive on some other computer, boot up from them and clean the system. Bruce's approach is even better, if you have a complete backup of your data (and preferably, software), but if you don't, you'll need to clean the system first, then back up the data, and only then rebuild.

well if the screen is black then perhaps windows is not activated? but you say malware also, if you cant download/open anything on the desktop then perhaps to consider live cd to try clean windows from malware.SARDU is a tool that permit to combine more freeware antivirus Rescue CD system in a single multiboot USB or DVD support to disinfect, repair, administrate one damaged system and data after a crash. http://www.sarducd.it/rescue-cd-antivirus.html

First of you should never connect an infected computer to the network or internet. While you are trying to fix it, it may be downloading a newer maybe unknown malware, send out infected emails, steal your passwords and what not. Also malware can spread through the local network to other devices the infected computer has access to. "It's a hazard and should be isolated."Since you can't open any applications the only way I can think of is an anti-virus rescue CD. Download and burn the rescue CD on another computer and then boot the infected one from it.https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU76207/https://www.avg.com/en-ww/free-antivirus-downloadhttp://support.kaspersky.com/us/viruses/rescuedisk/http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-rescue-systemLast but not least you never really know if a malware was cleaned 100% or what damage e.g. to other (system) files and application it may have done. Depending on the spread across the system and damage you may want to backup your personal files and perform a full reinstallation as Bruce suggested.

Cristian,Reinstalling Windows will get rid of any virus because you should start with a run of DBAN before doing the reinstall in order to completely wipe out anything on the drive. Installing Windows at that point will requrie a full reformat operation ensuring a clean slate.Restoring anything previously backed up is where you could possibly get reinfected, so do fresh installs of all of your portable programs instead of restoring them from potentially infected backups and scan any data files and installers downloaded from the web before using them.

SuperAntiSpyware isn't better, just a different program that may find what Malwarebytes didn't. It is better to use at least two different malware scanners and two different antivirus scanners. It is much life proofreading; there is always a chance that something may skip by that another picks up.

Is SuperAntiSpyware better than Malwarebytes? Because I tried Malwarebytes and that didn't really fix the problem.

I would use Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ or Hiren's Boot CD: http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/. Use another computer to download either of these and burn to CD. You would then be able to boot the computer into a separate environment in order to remove and fix the virus issues on the computer. Reboot the computer without the disk inserted, and see if things are working again (not everything may be working properly). If possible, download and install Windows Repair (All-in-One): http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html. This should help fix many of the Windows OS issues caused by the virus.I have only used Hiren's, but Ultimate Boot CD is highly recommended by many.

Is SuperAntiSpiware better than Malwarebytes? Because I did use Malwarebytes to remove some malware and it says that it successfully removed almost all the infected files but needed to restart to finish the task. If SuperAntiSpyware is worse or about as good as Malwarebytes, then I'm not going to download it and I guess I'll just do a clean reinstall if that's what's necessary. But how are you sure that reinstalling Windows will completely remove the virus?
2013-12-06 23:47:30
If you have tried various malware programs - SuperAntiSpyware is good and ran an Antivirus scan be it online or off but still having problems then maybe a clean re-install is what you need.
