My laptop keeps giving me a message that my Windows 7 is not genuine, can I get a genuine copy online or do I have to use a disc?

More to the point - can I still buy a copy of Windows 7?

Thanks

You can buy one on any store that sells Microsoft products, or buy a licence from the Microsoft web page.On the other hand, as previously mentioned, you can download a small app called windows loader from any torrent site (allways check comments and scan for viruses) and activate windows from there. This is of course not legal, but it's up to you if you want to pay, or go for free....

Its very simple! Forget all those other answers, your best bet is to download a windows loader and run the software. After running the loader, choose the system name and info on it and then hit "Install". That's all for now, your OS will be "Genuine" forever! You're Welcome!

If you know someone that attends a university, students are often given free copies of licensed software, including Windows OSes.

A very inexpensive way to get a valid license is to advertise on Craigslist or other site. many users who buy new machines don't want the newer operating system. Another way is to purchase a student copy at a local college. To tell if you have a valid license, you can email Microsoft, or try updating it. Some fakes are superb and will even have a superior-looking authenticity sticker on the envelope, but your best bet is to purchase from a reputable supplier who will give you a money-back guarantee. Some credit card companies offer as a no-charge part of their service product warranties that will protect you. If the copy is a fake, just call the credit card company if the store won't refund your money. No store wants to get involved with fraudulent merchandise criminal charges....BTW, the current announcement shows that Windows 7 should be supported through 2020, so 7 is a good choice. For older operating systems, look for friends who are buying new machines, or places where old machines are turned in for recycling or trash (public schools, Best Buy, curbside). You can pull the license number from one of several places. If the machine is operable, you can find it in Help, About on the start button. If the machine is not operable you may find the license number taped to the back of the machine near the serial number. In all cases you will find the license number on the issue media (CD or DVD) and on the wrapper.

If the laptop was purchased with Windows 7 installed and the genuine message just now started to pop up, then you could have a virus. Try running your antivirus to see if it has any virus installed. If you don't have an antivirus you can download malwarebytes free edition and run a scan that way. After the scanning and such is done, look under the laptop and see if there's a Windows 7 product key. If so, you can click "Active Now" in control panel and get them to re-activate for you. If you didn't have a product key sticker, you're going to have to buy a new licence key. You can purchase a key from Microsoft directly or through an online retailer like newegg or tigerdirect. I hope this helps :)

If Windows 7 is genuine, problem may be caused by malware. Do a quick scan of your laptop with Malwarebytes and delete any malware it finds. Reboot and do a full scan in safe mode. You may have to reactivate Windows.

You can certainly buy discs of Windows 7 with a valid product number. They are available from a variety of online shops (e.g. Amazon).

You can buy a copy of genuine Windows 7 online, or in retail stores. My advice: If you want to save money, buy the Windows 7 System Builder.

If your laptop shipped with Window 7 there should be a genuine certificate with the License Key somewhere on the device. If you installed Windows 7 yourself or had someone installing it for you, you or this person should have a valid license. If for whatever reason you did install a non-genuine copy of Windows 7 you will have to buy a license which can (still) be done at most places where they sell computers. If you do use a pirated version you will most likely have to reinstall your system to pass the genuine test even with a genuine License Key.

your laptop should have a factory recovery partition, you can use it to revert back to factory state as such everything will be formatted (so you have to do a backup of files first) and windows will be reinstalled and activated.

Usually that message pops up when you've installed a pirated version. It's okay until you connect online. The only way to get rid of it is to install a genuine copy by upgrading online or buying a physical copy from your local PC or Tech store.

Did you install a pirated version of Windows? Or if you know that you have installed a genuine version, maybe your computer is popping up an error here. You could check this forum: http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/windows-7-error-this-is-not-a-genuine-copy-of-windows-7.186306/

You should still be able to purchase it, most of the time microsoft will allow you to go through the process online also.

I've seen boxes on Amazon for about $90. This is the upgrade version, though. You need to have Windows Vista or XP installed first. Not sure if the license ID carries over, though. Probably not. they also have the full version for $163
