In my house, my wife and I have computers, we pay for FIOS internet service that gives us phone/internet/cable service, and our Fax machine sends faxes with no problem.

I'm wondering if I can buy some software/hardware so that .pdfs and word docs can be faxed directly from our computers rather than going over to the fax machine.

I've learned there are free services that allow you to fax one page at a time, but many services have recurring charges. I'm already paying for both the phone and internet access - I don't want to pay a recurring charge for faxing, and I want to fax from my computer.

I had read that Google allows some fax services over their free telephone service - but that multipage faxing is not reliable over the internet, and perhaps their 'free' service will require payment soon.

Joe, it's partly a question of volume of faxes. There are plenty of free internet fax services (I've just googled "free internet fax" and got "About 147,000,000 results"), but most of them are limited in how many documents you can send per day. If you need more, you'll need to pay.
