Hello!

So I have a problem using Navigation for Android 4.1.2. I downloaded the Ivona Amy British Voice TTS engine from Google Play and I am trying to associate that voice in place of the default voice for Navigation. I don't know how to do this so please help. Thank you so much!

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S III with Android 4.1.2.

I stand corrected. Apparently you can change the voice in Android 2.2. in 2.1 the default voice cannot be changed. http://svoxmobilevoices.wordpress.com/how-to-use/

The TTS (Text to Speech) engines are only for reading text to you aloud. The GPS uses a set of pre-recorded phrases for the navigation. You can manually change those prompts using the instructions here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828069

But before I got this new phone, my old phone (which was a Samsung Conquer), was able to do it. Now, assuming that the Samsung Galaxy S III is an improvement upon the Conquer, I don't think they would remove the this feature.

Menu - Settings - Voice input and output - Text-to-speech settings. Then under the Default settings section, press Default engine.1. Install IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ to your Android device from the Google Play store2. Select & install your preferred language and voice(s) from the Google Play store3. Once downloaded, launch the IVONA app to complete your installation4. Finally, Select IVONA TTS Engine as your default engine by navigating to Android Settings

Can you go to Settings --> Applications --> Google Voice --> and tap on clear defaults. After that try tapping on speaker icon usually present in Google search bar(at the homescreen). It might show you a popup choice to select between Google voice and Ivona Amy British Voice TTS and then you can have a choice.

There were no defaults set when I checked so the icon was shaded out.

Have you set the Ivona voice as the default TTS engine? In System Settings, go to Language and Input, then to Text-to-speech output. Select the Ivona speech engine. You can change some settings within Ivona from there as well.

I already have the preferred TTS engine set to IVONA Text-to-Speech HQ. It still uses Navigation's default voice engine.
