Are you wanting to keep both versions (dual booting)? If you do, you'll need to buy a full version of Windows 8 (not the upgrade), and do a side-by-side installation.

You can do this with the upgrade version as well unless they have changed the wording of their EULA (the last upgrade version I picked up was XP Pro; my versions of Vista Ultimate & 7 Ultimate were full version freebies from Microsoft). At least with Windows XP and prior, you could interpret their EULA to mean that as long as you weren't using the new and old versions of the OS at the same time, you were not violating the agreement, so setting up a dual-boot configuration with the upgrade disk would be permissible.

Put the Windows 8 installation disks or drive you will be guided through upgradation setup and you are done.
