Forget the cinema this summer. You can avoid catching COVID while still enjoying movies with your friends. How? By hosting an Amazon Prime Video Watch Party on your Fire TV, of course.

Amazon Prime Video Brings Watch Parties to Fire TV

If you've got a Fire TV setup, then it will delight you to know that you can now watch Amazon Prime Video with your friends. Not just five or six pals, either... you can watch with up to 100 people at a time. That's practically a small cinema audience right there!

The Watch Party function is now available on Fire TV in beta mode, according to the Amazon.com Watch Party page. And you can watch with your friends on any Fire TV device, alongside the usual channels such as via your browser, mobile device app, or anywhere else you get your Prime Video fix.

What Can You Watch With Prime Video Watch Parties?

If you have a Fire TV device then, as per other devices compatible with the Watch Party initiative, you can watch anything available through Prime Video.

So, anything included free with Prime is fair game to watch with your friends and family, at no extra cost to anyone; this is a very sweet deal considering a Prime subscription usually costs $12.99/month.

If you want to watch paid content (either rented or purchased) then everyone will need to pay the rental or purchase fee (making the experience a little more like going to the cinema, in that it'll charge you all a fee to watch the movie).

Who Can Join the Prime Video Watch Party?

There are several criteria for eligibility with Prime Video Watch Parties.

First, you must have access to the internet. This is pretty obvious, but as Amazon Prime Video allows for offline watching, be aware that you can't join a Watch Party with an offline movie or series.

If you want to watch a movie that you rent or buy, then everyone will need to rent or buy it. Not just one person. So you'll need to ensure that everyone can afford the film and can pay for it.

Sadly, you can't participate in international watch parties, either. Obviously, Amazon geo-locks some content, meaning it is only available in certain territories. So, if you hoped to watch your US Amazon Prime in a party with some friends in Europe, you will encounter problems.
