Every year, CES highlights manufacturers, developers, and suppliers of innovative consumer technology hardware. Health and wellness were key topics at the 2023 event, which featured a dedicated Digital Health Studio area where exhibitors displayed innovative products in the health technology space.

CES also featured several conference sessions dedicated to exploring topics of digital wellness. Here are the most interesting health and wellness products spotted at CES 2023.

1. Truekinetix TrueTrainer

There are many factors to consider when deciding on a smart exercise bike, including the effect of pedal force on a realistic riding experience. The Truekinetix TrueTrainer stands out in this regard thanks to some unique features.

It's a state-of-the-art indoor bike trainer that uses robotics and AI to make the pedal force feel more natural through something the company calls TrueForce Technology. The TrueTrainer has a max resistance of 2,600 watts, which TrueKinetix says can meet the demand of the best cycling sprinters in the world.

You can connect the device to an external monitor via HDMI and third-party apps like Zwift and Rouvy via Bluetooth, ANT+, and Wi-Fi. What's more, the energy you generate by pedaling powers the device.

There are three different models offered by Truekinetix, each with a different price point and different features.

2. Withings U-Scan

There are many gadgets that simplify healthcare. Add to that list the Withings U-Scan, a hockey puck-sized device that clips onto your toilet bowl to analyze urine samples. Urinalysis is used in clinics to measure various compounds that pass through your urine and is commonly used to diagnose urinary tract infections.

The device requires the use of replaceable cartridges, each designed to measure different aspects of your health. Cartridges are capable of informing you when you're ovulating (Cycle Sync cartridge), testing your vitamin levels, assessing hydration levels, and providing insight into your general level of nutrition (Nutri Balance cartridge).

By pairing the device with the Withings app via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, the U-Scan can also provide you with guidance on how to interpret test results and what to do to improve your situation. For instance, if you lack certain vitamins, it will recommend foods you should eat.

While featured at CES 2023, the U-Scan still requires regulatory approval in the United States. However, it is slated for its European release in Q2 2023. The device will cost €499 with replacement cartridges available individually or as part of a monthly subscription.

3. alphabeats

Not to be confused with the Danish pop band of the same name, alphabeats is a health technology company that has been around since 2019. At CES 2023, the company was recognized as an innovation award honoree for its alphabeats device, a portable, headband-style tool that monitors brain activity and uses music to help athletes enter a flow state.

Flow is characterized by alpha brainwaves and is commonly associated with high performance. The device is equipped with EEG sensors and uses music-based biofeedback to trigger your brain into producing higher alpha brainwave activity. The company claims that regular use of the device can result in noticeable improvements in your mental function over time.

4. Heybike Tyson

The Tyson model by Heybike is a foldable electric bike that the company unveiled at CES 2023. It's constructed from a single piece of magnesium alloy, rather than aluminum or carbon. It's both lightweight and strong and features beefy 4" fat tires, a hydraulic front suspension fork, and a 750W motor, meaning you can ride this slick little whip on pavement or gravel trails.

E-bikes can travel various distances, and how much range you get will depend on the motor type, battery capacity, terrain, fitness level, and other factors. The Tyson comes with a 48V 15Ah battery with 720Wh of capacity, giving it a maximum range of 55 miles (88 km) in pedal assist mode.

The bike also features an anti-theft system using built-in GPS, spokeless wheels to reduce maintenance costs, and a thumb throttle for those who like speed on demand (vroom!). Check the Heybike website for availability, as the bike is expected to be available following CES 2023.

5. AeviceMD

AeviceMD is a smart wearable stethoscope developed by the Singaporean medical technology firm Aevice Health. The lightweight sensor continuously and passively analyzes chest sounds and logs measurements for respiratory rate, heart rate, and wheeze into a companion app.

Powered by AI, the device can also detect and analyze abnormal lung sounds to determine if what it hears is indicative of diseases like asthma and COPD, potentially allowing for early health interventions. This provides patients with a continuum of personalized medical care from the comfort of their homes.

AeviceMD is being used in a clinical trial conducted by Singapore's National University Health System to quantify its use in detecting wheezing, one of the key signs of asthma. Researchers are also developing a predictive model for asthma attacks in pediatric patients using AeviceMD.

There are many steps you can take to get a good night's sleep and this includes using a good bed. Designed to support athletes and fitness enthusiasts, the ErgoSportive is a smart, adjustable bed frame that uses smart sensor technology to monitor your sleep activities.

When used in conjunction with a Garmin wearable (which comes with the bed) you can access unique sleep data and get individualized recovery advice through the bed's companion app.

The ErgoSportive features built-in vibration motors to help you relax and a flexible base that allows you to change the shape of the bed depending on what you're using it for, such as reading, sleeping, or watching TV (though watching TV in bed is not great for sleep!).

While adjustable beds are nothing new, the ErgoSportive also features an anti-snoring function designed to automatically modify the bed's position to stop you from snoring in the middle of the night, helping you re-enter and stay in deep sleep longer.

Health Technology Continues to Expand and Impress

CES is one of the coolest events of the year. As the world's largest technology exhibition, it allows consumers to see exciting new tech and is a great opportunity for start-ups and smaller companies to showcase their innovations and get exposure to a global audience.

From devices that help you train your body, monitor your physiology, improve your mental performance, or get a good night's sleep, CES 2023 featured more health and wellness-related technology than ever.
