The Google Pixel 6 is still a few months away from its launch. However, alleged renders of the device have been shared online by leaker Jon Prosser indicating that Google is planning a massive design overhaul for this year's flagship Pixel phones.
Seemingly, there's also going to be a change in the naming scheme, with the larger Pixel model being called the Pixel 6 Pro. So far, Google has used the 'XL' branding for its bigger Pixel devices.
The Pixel 6 Series Will Feature a New Design
The renders show the Pixel 6 having a radically different design than the Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 series. The rear has a three-tone design at the rear, which seems to be an evolution of the Pixel 4's design language. It is also interesting to see that the camera bump extends across the back of the device and comes in a different finish than the rest of the back.
Going by the renders, the regular Pixel 6 will feature a dual-camera system at the rear. The larger Pixel 6 Pro will feature a triple-camera system, with the 'Pro' branding implying that it would also feature a larger display. At the front, the phones feature a centered punch-hole for the selfie camera.
Google seems to have managed to reduce the bezels surrounding the display on the Pixel 6 series, which is a welcome change from existing Pixel devices with relatively large bezels.
Jon Prosser did not have access to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro spec sheet, so he did not share any details about their internals and camera specs. However, previous reports suggest Google is planning on using its custom 'GS101' Google Silicon chip on the Pixel 6 series.
The Pixel 5a and Pixel Buds A Are Still Due to Launch
Before the Pixel 6 series is launched, Google will launch the budget-oriented Pixel 5a and the Pixel Buds A. The company has already confirmed that it plans to launch the Pixel 5a this year, although it will only be available in the US and Japan.
Budget Pixel phones are usually launched in the second half of Q2. With Google I/O scheduled to take place from May 18-20, Google may unveil the phone and the Pixel Buds A at its annual developer conference this year.
Pixel Phones Are Getting Exciting Again
After a few lackluster releases over the years, it looks like Google is finally putting effort into making Pixel phones exciting again. The new design coupled with Google's custom chipset should infuse a new life into the Pixel lineup, which has so far failed to impress consumers and sell in decent numbers.
