Two of Google's more underrated apps are Meet and Chat. They're both well-made bits of communication software. Google appears to be trying to coerce Chrome OS users into trying out the apps by preinstalling them on Chrome OS.
While the company hasn't started putting it on Chrome OS computers just yet, 9To5Google spotted a new bug that says to "Pre-install Meet and Chat PWAs on Chrome OS."
Google Meet and Chat on Chrome OS
Users could already install an Android app for Google Meet or Chat. They could also use the web version of either tool, but if this new update ends up being pushed through, that web app would come preinstalled on new Chrome OS devices going forward. This could be a bit more convenient for Chrome OS users who rely on Google's communication tools.
Apparently, the change wouldn't just apply to new Chrome OS devices, as Chromebooks and other PCs that get a factory reset with Chrome OS would also have Meet and Chat installed. That makes sense, as the apps would be considered part of a fresh Chrome OS installation.
When Will Meet and Chat Start Coming Preinstalled?
According to the report, the bug is slated to be implemented by Chrome OS version 92, which is scheduled to come out in July.
As long as everything stays on track, any new Chromebook sold with Chrome OS 92 and any that are reset once Chrome OS 92 launches will automatically get Meet and Chat.
