Google is deprecating its standalone Google Wifi app and integrating its functionality with the Google Home app. The Google Wifi app was used to set up and manage Google Wifi and OnHub routers.
The company says that it is moving all the features to its Google Home app to "help our customers control and manage all their connected products in one place and enable routines across them.”
The Verge notes that the transition from Google Wifi to the Google Home app will happen in two parts. Firstly, Google will disable most of the functionality of the Google Wifi app on May 25th. After this, you will only be able to use the app to view your Wifi network's status but won't be able to make any changes to it.
For anything else, you will have to use the Google Home app. Migrating your Google Wifi or OnHub router to the Google Home app is pretty simple and straightforward. However, Google's support page highlights that you cannot go back to using the Google Wifi app once you make the transition.
Sometime in June, Google will remove the Google Wifi app from the Play Store and iOS App Store for good.

Once do you switch over to the Google Home app though, you will be able to manage your Google Wifi network, use Google Assistant to pause Wi-Fi, check your internet speed, show your guest Wi-Fi password on Nest displays, and add a Nest Wifi point to an existing Google Wifi network.
Other benefits of the transition include improved video conferencing, notifications when a new device joins the network, and more.
If you had managers in the Google Wifi app for managing your networks, they would be removed during the transition phase. You'll have to again add them as home members in the Google Home app and give them access to your Wi-Fi and device settings.
Do note that you will not be able to use OnHub routers with Nest Wifi devices even after migrating your OnHub network to the Google Home app.
This transition from Google Wifi to the Google Home app should not be surprising. The Nest Wifi routers launched in 2019 can only be set up using the Google Home app.
Google did not make the transition for its older routers back then since the Home app still lacked a lot of functionality. Now that all Wifi-related options have been added to the app, the Google Wifi app is being killed.
