At this point, we need to accept that foldable phones aren't going anywhere and they might even be the future of phones. While they're still niche products with prohibitively expensive price tags, more and more companies are getting into the folding market. In doing so, the prices will need to drop as competition tends to force companies to drop their prices.

According to a new report from TheElec, Samsung is planning to make smartphone foldable displays for other companies, including Oppo, Xiaomi, and surprisingly, Google.

What Could We See from a Google Foldable?

It's difficult to say what Google's foldable phone could bring to the table, though the report does indicate that Google has requested a 7.60-inch folding display from Samsung, which would likely mean that the opened screen will be that size.

As it's still incredibly early in the process, with Google not even having started production, we could have to wait for a while before hearing about any leaks with more details of Google's foldable. Still, it's exciting to see that more companies are seeing the potential of foldable phones.

We don't know what form-factor Google will use for its possible folding phone. It could choose a clamshell design like that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, or it could go with a more tablet-like design like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. Unfoertanly, we probably won't find out what design Google will use until the phone gets deeper in production and we start seeing some leaks.

If Google's previous phones are any indication, Google's foldable device could be one of the more affordable devices on the market, as the company tends to keep its phones on the cheaper side when compared to the competition. Instead of the $2,000 to $3,000 price point that we've seen from devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 or the Huawei Mate X2, Google may be able to push the price down further, though that's purely speculation at this time.

When Will We Learn More?

Unfortunately, it's impossible to say when we'll learn more. We could find out more details from a leak once Google gets production going, or the company might manage to keep everything a secret until it actually announces the device (or devices).

At this point, all we can do is wait and see what Google decides to do with its folding phone. The company could simply be experimenting with ideas for the future, so there's always a chance we don't even see a foldable from Google anytime soon.
