Whether you're a new or old subscriber to Apple Music, you can get up to five months of free streaming on the service.

Apple Music already comes with a free three-month subscription for new customers and is now running a promotional offer through Shazam—Apple's music recognition service—to give you up to five months of free Apple Music streaming.

This is an unusually long period of free streaming for a music streaming service. Now, let's see how it works.

How Apple Music's Shazam Offer Works

First of all, you can only claim this Apple Music offer through Shazam's website. Here's how it works:

You can sign up for Apple Music's free subscription regardless of whether you are currently using the service or are a new subscriber. This offer applies even if you've already used the three-month free trial when you first joined, but there's a catch which we'll discuss in a second.

You'll have to claim your free subscription by heading over to Shazam.com/AppleMusic. Next, you need to scan the QR code that shows up on the page using your phone.

Once you have scanned the QR code, you will be redirected to the Shazam website through the web browser and asked to verify your identity with Face ID or your Apple ID.

Upon logging in, Apple will check whether you have used your three-month free trial in the past and then tell you how many months you qualify for.

If you have already used your three-month trial before, you will only get a two-month subscription for free. And if you haven't, you will get the full five-month free access to Apple Music.

Note that if you don't cancel your subscription by the time your trial period is over, Apple will charge your credit card. To avoid this, you can cancel your Apple Music subscription immediately after activating the trial and continue using it until it expires.

If you want to keep using Apple Music, you'll have to pay the standard cost of an Apple Music subscription, which is $9.99 a month for individuals and $14.99 per month for the family plan, which accommodates up to six people. You can also subscribe to Apple One instead for $14.95, which gives you access to other services like iCloud, Apple TV+, and Apple Arcade.

You can subscribe for $4.99 per month if you're a college student. You can also get the Apple Music Voice plan for $4.99, available with iOS 15.2 and macOS 12.1, although its limited functionality is better suited for someone with a HomePod.

Apple Is Betting on Apple Music

Music is a part of our everyday lives, and like many other streaming services, music services like Apple Music tend to come at a cost.

And although some streaming services come with free trials, those trials are often short. Not only does Apple Music offer a three-month free trial for first-time users, but it is also now offering up to five months of the service for free, which is a hard deal to come by.

This shows Apple's commitment to helping you stream music for next to nothing. Perhaps that's because Apple reckons that once you've experienced Apple Music, you'll stay on the service, even if it means paying for it going forward.
