The GDC (Game Developers Conference) Showcase will feature some key players on the game development landscape, with exhibitor announcements now trickling in ahead of the July expo.

Facebook, Unity, and Intel to Present at GDC 2021

Like we say, exhibitor announcements have rolled in across social media since the beginning of March. Those who have confirmed their attendance, up to now, include Unity, Intel, and Facebook.

So, we can imagine there will be plenty to take in at the free 2021 game dev conference. You can register at the GDConf.com "attend" page.

What Is the Game Developers Conference?

The GDC takes place every year. It is completely free to attend and is open to anyone. So, if you are a game developer, this is obvious to you. However, if you want a career in game development, this is an excellent opportunity for you to get some advice from the pros.

The organizers describe their own conference vest, of course:

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) brings the game development community together to exchange ideas, solve problems, and shape the future of the industry across five days of education, inspiration, and networking. Attendees include programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals, and business leaders.

Thankfully, organizers have seen the sense in a virtual event, so have ditched the hybrid "in-person" plans that they previously had. Now the event is virtual only, meaning you don't even need to leave the comfort of your gaming chair to get involved.

What Will Happen at GDC 2021?

Well, obviously, organizers build the event around game development. So, if you want to check out the latest technology game devs are using, or pick up some tips and tricks with your game development software of choice, then GDC 2021 is for you.

Here's what GDC has to say regarding some highlights at the expo:

  • The market-defining conference has a comprehensive selection of lectures, panels, and roundtable discussions.
  • The GDC Expo showcases the latest game development tools and services from leading technology companies such as Amazon, Epic, Google, Intel, Nvidia, Oculus, and Sony.
  • Dedicated community spaces where GDC attendees can take a break from all of the learning to relax and meet new people in themed areas for playable indie games, retro games, alternative controllers, and more.

Looks like Google is in attendance, presumably with a seminar about how expensive and time-consuming it is to develop a AAA game (Google clearly didn't get that memo, so has closed all of its in-house game dev studios).

As mentioned, if you're a game developer of any ability, GDC 2021 should be very much on your calendar.

Game development can be a fun and rewarding pursuit, whether you do it as a hobby or your full-time job. You never know, you could end up developing the next game in the Fallout series, or creating high octane racing games (if you don't already).
