While new smartphones come out all the time, most of them are fairly iterative. Sure, cameras improve, specs become more powerful, and screens grow larger, but the overall design of smartphones remains more or less the same over many years.

Foldable phones are finally shaking things up though. They throw out the traditional design of smartphones in favor of something new and different.

Perhaps the most talked-about foldable phone is the Galaxy Z Fold2, and while Samsung hasn't made many details official, the rumor mill has been hard at work digging up as many aspects as possible about it.

We've learned about the event at which Samsung will spill the details, the release date, the price, and even the key specs of Samsung's next high-end foldable. Read on to find out everything (we think) we know.

When Will the Galaxy Z Fold2 be Officially Unveiled?

While these are all rumors, everything will be presented to us on Tuesday, September 1st at 10 AM ET when Samsung will hold the second part of its Galaxy Unpacked event. The phone was first teased at the original Galaxy Unpacked event, but next to no details were confirmed.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 Price Rumors

As for what we've learned so far, SamMobile spotted a pre-order page in the UK with a price tag of £1,799. WinFuture has also reported that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 will retail for €1,999. With those two price points, the phone should retail for between $2,300 and $2,400 in the US.

However, the original Galaxy Z Fold launched for £1,900. It sold for $1,980 in the US. If that pricing trend remains, we could see the Galaxy Z Fold2 retail for somewhere in the $1,900 range.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 Release Date Rumors

Outside of how much you're going to have to spend, the other big question about the phone is the release date. According to a leak spotted by SamMobile, the phone will be available in South Korea on September 18th.

With the pattern of release windows for Samsung recently, it should release in other markets around that same time. The report also indicated that Samsung would open pre-orders on September 11 and run them through September 17.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 Specification Rumors

The final key detail of the Galaxy Z Fold2 is everything under the hood. With as much money as this phone is purported to sell for, it better come with some beastly specs. WinFuture leaked a spec sheet for the phone, and while not confirmed, they definitely fall in line with what we'd expect from the phone.

As for the screens, the outside display will be a 6.2-inch screen with HDR10+, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a resolution of 2260x816. The foldable internal screens are rumored to be 7.6-inches with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 2208x1768 resolution.

The cameras are rumored to feature a triple camera setup, with a 12MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture, a 12MP wide camera with an f/1.8 aperture, and a 12MP telephoto sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The selfie cameras are 10MP with an f/2.2 aperture.

As far as the other specifications, the phone is likely to feature Android 10 and One UI 2.5 out-of-the-box. It is also likely to feature Flex Mode, which is where the foldable screen really shines.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 should come with the high-end Snapdragon 865+ processor under the hood.

Are Foldable Phones The Future?

It's pretty obvious that foldable phones aren't going away anytime soon.

Samsung is definitely leading the charge right now, but it surely won't be long before other manufacturers jump in and start making foldable phones.
