When it comes to rugged phones, many of the devices released tend to come from smaller OEMs like Blackview and others at that same level.

However, there are rugged devices from big brands, and Samsung has just announced its latest model called the Galaxy Xcover 5. If you're in the market for a phone that can take a beating and you want the reliability and reputation that comes with the Samsung brand, this might be the perfect phone for you.

What Is the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5?

The phone has been heavily rumored over the last few weeks, and now Samsung has announced the phone on its Mobile Press site. The company revealed just about every detail about its upcoming rugged smartphone, and it sounds like a reasonably good device.

An interesting feature of the Xcover 5 is the 3,000mAh removable battery. You don't see very many smartphones with batteries that pop out anymore, so if you're the type of person who wants to keep a phone for a long time without dealing with long-term battery drain, the Xcover 5 has you covered. That battery supports 15W Fast charging, which isn't the quickest out there but still good for a budget-friendly rugged phone.

The screen is fairly small. The phone has a 5.3-inch HD+ TFT display. It's not the highest-resolution screen, but it should look pretty good with the smaller screen size.

As far as what's under the hood, there's the Exynos 850 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. That power runs Android 11, so you'll get the latest version of Android on your device. The phone doesn't sport 5G, which is expected when you consider the rumored price.

The camera is pretty basic, toting a 16MP sensor, autofocus, and an f/1.8 aperture. There's a 5MP selfie camera on the front as well.

As far as the rugged features, the Galaxy Xcover 5 features IP68 water and dust resistance, and it's MIL-STD810H certified. Samsung didn't announce what type of glass is on the phone, but we'd assume it's some sort of durable glass such as Corning's Gorilla Glass.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5 Availability and Price

Samsung announced that the device would be available in select markets in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. In the future, the company plans to expand availability to other regions, though it didn't get more specific.

While Samsung took the vail off most details of its rugged phone, the company didn't announce the price yet. The rumor mill suggests that it'll sell for €299 when it makes its way to Europe, though, but we'll have to wait for confirmation.
