The Galaxy S22 range already ranks among the best and most popular Android cameras, and it's about to get even better. A new camera update targets numerous areas of stills and video shooting, and addresses some of the remaining complaints users have about the devices.

The update is already rolling out in Korea and should become available more widely soon.

Galaxy S22 Camera Update

The second big update to the S22 cameras was confirmed on Samsung's community forum in Korea, with some specifics of the update reported by Android Police.

Among the features you can expect to see are:

  • Support for the telephoto camera in hyperlapse mode: Previously limited to the wide and ultra-wide cameras, you can now shoot hyperlapse videos with the telephoto lens. The company is also said to be working on an Astronomical Hyperlapse mode that's pegged for a future release.
  • Improved QR code scanning: QR scanning will be faster and more accessible, and the guide display will be larger to make it more accurate.
  • Improved Night Mode: Among the AI enhancements will be an improved Night Mode that delivers brighter images with more accurate colors and better overall exposure.
  • Other AI improvements in Photo and Video Modes: Better HDR processing and more accurate colors will bring improvements to image quality in Photo Mode, while Video Mode should see better image stabilization to bring smoother and steadier videos.

The updates promise to bring big improvements to photos and videos shot in a range of conditions. There's no word on performance improvements for things like shutter lag, which remains a problem for some—but by no means all—S22 users.

How to Check for the Update

If you've got a Galaxy S22 phone, you can wait until you receive a notification that the update is ready to download and install. Alternatively, you can check and update your phone manually by going to Settings > Software Update > Download and install. This will check if the update is available for you yet. If it is, tap the Download button to get started.

The S22 Camera Is Getting Even Better

This camera update brings several welcome enhancements to the Galaxy S22 photo experience and should help make an impressive setup even better. This is especially the case with the S22 Ultra, which has a camera system to rival even that on the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
