Samsung is bringing many of the Galaxy S21's camera features to its 2020 flagship devices, the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series. The company is rolling out a 600MB+ update for these devices, which adds new camera features and improves their imaging performance.

The Galaxy S20 and Note 20 Gain Low-Light Portrait Mode Support

SamMobile reports that the entire Galaxy S20 and Note 20 lineup will gain some new camera features, as seen on the Galaxy S21, with the latest update. It will allow S20 and Note 20 owners to use the portrait mode for clicking photos in low-light. This feature was previously only available on the Galaxy S21 series.

The portrait mode also gains three new lighting effects: high-key mono, low-key mono, and backdrop. These effects will change the background color in your portrait shots to spice them further up.

The dedicated Pro mode in the camera app now also supports the ultra-wide camera on the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series. Previously, this was only limited to the primary camera.

The dedicated Night mode is being improved as well. It will now let Galaxy S20 and Note 20 owners decide the maximum exposure time or select the ideal exposure time based on its own assessment.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

Samsung has already brought many Galaxy S21 camera features to the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 with the One UI 3.1 update (as detailed in a post on the Samsung Newsroom). This includes an improved Single Take mode, Object Eraser, improved touch autofocus, multi-mic recording, and more.

Apart from all the above changes, the update should improve the Galaxy S20 and Note 20's overall camera quality.

Still No Director's View Mode

Arguably, one of the best camera modes on the Galaxy S21 series, the Director View, has still not made its way to the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series with this update.

This mode provides you with a live feed from all four cameras at the same time, though you can only record videos from any two cameras at a given time. You can also switch between the different rear cameras while recording a video in this mode.

Samsung is likely not bringing the Director View mode to the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series due to the limited processing power on the ISP (Image Signal Processor) of these devices.

How to Install the Update on Your Galaxy S20 or Note 20

The new update is currently available for the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series in Germany. It should soon be rolled out to S20 and Note 20 units in the US and other parts of the world.

You can check for the update on your Galaxy device by going to Settings > Software Update.
