Also, unlike Oo, Libre has no problems with docx files (MS Word, '07 on)

just go with OpenOffice.org, less hassle, simple installation, similiar to MS Office Suite and it gets the work done.

Libre is a split from Openoffice. The devs split off when Oracle was going all corporate on the project, and the devs were not going to have any of it. Libreoffice is based off of OpenOffice version 3.3 beta. For the lay person, you can consider it the same; however, its likely that OO will not be developed any further since Oracle pissed off the open source community, and Ubuntu has abandoned it in favor of Libre. That said, go with the Libre suite.

Well if you are powerpoint user then you have to check each one of them so that not to have distorted surprise. Other then if its for simple word processing, i think all of them should be equal.

I've used OpenOffice and LibreOffice—they are equally good (though not very pretty) and come with some handy features. Their compatibility with MS Office (still the standard office suite) is fairly good, although that still needs work.Online, Zoho and Google Docs are the best possible office suites as of now.I however, like the feel of MS Office too much, so currently I use Office 2010.
