Videos I record on my video camera are .mov files and won't play on a DVD player when burned to a DVD. I am thinking they may need to be .avi files or .mp4. What do you recommend?

You can skip the video conversion and use something like DVDFlick to create a DVD out of your video .

I second Jessica as well. And FYI, most of the DVD players / home theater systems won't play the .mov files. So better have them burned in .avi
