Why do some flash drives fail to function for Windows ReadyBoost?
Specifically Maxell Onyx 8G Nano.

Hello, according to the description for your flash drive, it is readyboost ready/compatible. There are not many good reviews about this drive.....http://harddrive.comoj.com/maxell-onyx-8gb-usb-2-0-flash-drive.html

Hi David,The problem is, some thumb drives simply don't meet the requirements (see below). ReadyBoost also only works with USB thumb drives, SD cards, and CF cards. • Capacity of at least 256 MB, with at least 64 kilobytes (KB) of free space.• At least a 2.5 MB/sec throughput for 4-KB random reads• At least a 1.75 MB/sec throughput for 1-MB random writes• File system must be NTFS, FAT16 or FAT32• Mounted & assigned drive letterWhen you're shopping for external devices to use with ReadyBoost, look specifically in the description or on the package for "Enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost", which means that it has been tested (and works) with Windows ReadyBoost. Unfortunately, I was unable to determine any specifications of the Maxell Onyx 8G Nano. I'm betting it's not meeting one of those requirements, though. - Jeff
