I ran chkdsk on my XP machine and got the following results, after stage 2: "missing object id index entry or duplicate object id detected for file record segment 24123, errors found. chkdsk cannot continue in read only mode", am unable to run the /f and /c switches.

It all started with the blue screen of death, I had not installed anything recently on that machine, everything was intact but the computer is unable to start. It starts up to the point when Windows launches then shows a blue screen.

And the message on the blue screen is ...? Does the system start in safe mode? If you can run in safe mode, log in as Administrator and run 'chkdsk /f'. Don't use the /c switch (you don't want to skip any of the NTFS checks).
