My desktop icons have a black box covering 80% of the icon. Have looked everywhere I can think of for a solution. Any ideas? Using Win7 Professional. Started a few days ago.

hi there everyone,i've experienced the "black icons" issue a few days ago. after some research i come to determine that this is a conflict between applications that enhances desktop display and found a fix to it.actually, from the picture above the icons were set to the "smallest" view size. now, be informed that in windows 7, this is the exact same size of the shortcut "arrow". it is also likely that he tried to use a third party application to remove the "arrow", in this case that application merely made the arrow "transparent" and it likely conflicted with windows or another third party application thus making the tranparency into "black" instead..the solution i'm implying here is not a direct name to any application, but instead i would like to tell the readers that are facing the same issue above to look for an application that "TOTALLY" or at least temporarily remove the shortcut "arrow" (there's many around).lots'o'luck to u 'ol

Hi SteveI found a fix online. Go to Display Settings. You're probably running on 32 bit color mode. Change it back to 16 bit color mode and apply it. After this the black boxes should disappear. Next, restart your computer and change it back to 32 bit. You HAVE TO restart it, before changing it back.source: http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/microsoft-public-windows-vista-performance-maintenance/203476-desktop-icons-have-black-box.html
