The OS is Vista. Since about 10 days it is so slow. It takes ages for a program or IE to start.
What could be the reason? Any help is appreciated.

Aibek,Thank you so much. Actually the problem turned out to be some virus. I have QuickHeal AV and once I updated it to 2010 version and ran a scan, the pc started running (streaking along, in fact) like it is brand new. Thanks for the step by step instructions for system restore. I'll save that so that I don't forget it again.Srikanth.

Your question is way too broad, there are tons of things that might have caused the slow down. That being said, i actually do have a couple of ideas:1. Check the power options and make sure the setting is set at maximum performance.2. Did you try the system restore to bring the system to an earlier state?Aibek
