I've Acer Aspire 5740 with Intel Core-i3 CPU 330 @ 2.13 Ghz processor and I want to install Virtualbox.

I also want to create a virtual machine of Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 but I get the error:

the underlying system is not compatible for x64 version

This occurs despite me having Windows 8 x64 as the host operating system. I searched a lot for solutions but couldn't find appropriate one. One relevant suggestion was to enable Hardware Virtualization but the BIOS/UEFI menu has no such option when I press F2 or F12. I am using Oracle VM VirtualBox.

The relevant suggestion is correct:In order to run a 64-bit guest in VirtualBox hardware virtualization is required and needs to be enabled. Now, I have found varying reports on the internet. They all state that Acer has removed the option to enable/disable hardware virtualization (Intel VT-x) within their BIOS/UEFI. Some however do state that it is enabled by default and it may be a software problem in detecting it.This is a report from Vmware about this issue:https://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8978Some said they had to downgrade to Windows 7 in order to use Intel VT-x.Some said they had to manually modify the BIOS/UEFI to enable it.http://blog.michelbarneveld.nl/michel/archive/2009/11/27/how-to-enable-intel-vt-on-acer-aspire-7720g-laptop.aspx
