The tooltips on my Firefox browser work ok until I open Microsoft Word. Once Word is opened, the tooltips disappear very quickly. In MS Word they do not appear at all, despite having the 'display tooltips' option ticked. Windows Explorer tooltips are not affected by either condition.

Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem please?

The tooltips are specific for every application. You have to enable or disable them on the preferences for every application. Try disabling tooltips in Firefox and open Word and see if the same thing happens. To disable tooltips in Firefox, follow the next steps:-- open firefox-- In address bar type about:config-- Find the following entry: browser.chrome.toolbar_tips-- Highlight the entry and right click >> click toggleAlso, you might want to try this fix:http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/tooltipfixer-2-released/
