If you’ve used Firefox for a while, then there are good odds that you’re starting to get a little tired of the same old new tab page. Alternatively, you may be hoping to get more out of your new tabs, or are just tired of having your homepage and new tab not line up the way that you would like.

Luckily, there are plenty of different add-ons for Firefox that aim to address these problems. Here are six of the best.

1. Tabliss

First up on this list we have Tabliss, an add-on for Firefox which will completely overhaul the way that you see your new tab page.

As far as add-ons for new tabs go, Tabliss is a pretty straightforward way to approach things. With Tabliss, you can completely transform your new tab from its normal drab appearance to something a little more. You might even find a new way to speed up Firefox while you're at it.

There are a lot of customization options here for you to choose from, such as different background options and widgets for you to adjust.

At its core, though, Tabliss is essentially replacing your ordinary new tab page with a rotating range of backgrounds from a variety of providers. This makes your new tab page into something a little more exciting than it would otherwise be.

The other major draw with Tabliss is that you can get more out of your new tab page with it. There are a bunch of customizable widgets that you can display with Tabliss, from simple tools such as quotes or the current time, to in-built note-taking apps and even live NBA scores.

2. New Tab Override

If you’re not a fan of new tab pages at all, then you can always just be done with them completely. For that, there’s New Tab Override.

The concept behind New Tab Override is pretty simple, and more or less in the name. This Firefox add-on allows you to change your new tab page to any website that you so wish.

There’s a lot you can do with this. You can set the new tab page to be the same as your home page if you don’t like there being any distinction between the two, for example.

Alternatively, you can customize the background of your new tab pages, store local HTML files, and more. If you want your new tabs to automatically focus to the website or to the address bar, you can adjust that, too.

3. Momentum

Next up, we have Momentum. Momentum is one of the most well-known, maintained, and downloaded new tab add-ons for Firefox, and for good reason.

Momentum is an add-on that overrides your new tab page entirely, but aims to be much more than just that. It aims to be an all-in-one productivity tool as well.

It does this by seamlessly integrating a whole host of different features directly into your new tab page, where you can’t miss them. The idea being, perhaps, that you’re more likely to access them if they’re right in front of you.

At its most basic, Momentum provides you with inspiring quotes, mantras, and photos, friendly reminders about your tasks, a to-do manager, weather info, and more. What’s great here is that Momentum is highly customizable, and so you can do with or without any of these features as you wish.

There are even more features with Momentum Plus, a premium subscription service which provides further functionality such as soundscapes, in-built Pomodoro timers, metrics for your productivity, and more.

4. New Tab Homepage

If you’re looking for something a little less intrusive and a lot easier to set up, then New Tab Homepage is a solid little add-on you can install to change up how Firefox treats your new tabs.

The add-on itself is simple. Instead of opening your new tabs to the new tab page, New Tab Homepage, as the name implies, will open up to your homepage instead. If you have multiple homepages, then it’ll go with the first.

The draw here is that if that’s all you want, then New Tab Homepage will get the job done without any further mucking around with settings, premium subscriptions, or convoluted setup.

5. Infinity New Tab

Next up on this list comes Infinity New Tab. This is a Firefox add-on that’s a little bit more full-on, with plenty to bite your teeth into. Infinity New Tab serves as a complete new tab overhaul, designed to try and be efficient while still remaining elegant.

For one, Infinity New Tab will replace your new tab page with a speed dial, which is effectively a series of websites that you frequently visit. Infinity New Tab allows you to adjust these as you see fit, and personalize a wide range of different settings such as icon size, fillet arc, column spacing, and more.

You can even add folders to this new tab page if you’re the type of person who has more bookmarks or visited websites than you know what to do with.

There are also a bunch of other useful features such as HD wallpapers that will cycle through on new tab openings or that you can set yourself. If you’re looking for search engine support, to-do lists built into the add-on, or a functional notes app, then this is all available as well.

6. New Tab Tools

Finally, if you’re a bit of a power user or just prefer to set things up yourself, then New Tab Tools might be the best option on this list for you to give a go.

On the surface, New Tab Tools is a pretty simple little add-on. It allows you to customize the new tab page to your liking, adding in more tiles, setting background images, adjusting titles, seeing recently closed tabs, and more.

Where New Tab Tools really comes into its own is that these simple options give you a whole lot of control over the final look of your new tab page. While this may take more setting up than some of the other options on this list, this leaves plenty of room for you to make something truly your own. Kind of like picking the best version of Firefox for you.

Completely Reinvigorate Your New Tab Page in Firefox

As you can see, there are a ton of different Firefox add-ons out there that let you completely redesign the way you use your new tab page. Firefox add-ons are easy to install and easy to remove, so there’s little reason not to give them each a try and see what works best for you.
