Apple has brought Final Cut Pro, its professional video editing app, and Logic Pro, its professional music mixing app, to the iPad. By bringing professional-level apps to the iPad, Apple hopes to increase your ability to create professional movies and music.

Apple Introduces Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for the iPad

In an Apple Newsroom post, Apple announced iPadOS versions of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro. These apps maintain a similar interface to the Mac counterparts while enhancing them for the iPad's touch interface.

Both apps draw on the machine-learning capabilities of the iPad to bring new features not yet seen in their desktop counterparts. Ensure you know which iPad you own since Final Cut Pro will require an iPad with an M1 chip or later, while Logic Pro needs an A12 Bionic or newer.

Apple's Pricing for Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro

Unlike their expensive Mac versions, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro move to a subscription payment plan. Each app will set you back at $4.99 a month or $49 per year.

On the bright side, Apple will offer users a free one-month trial. So, you can check it out first-hand and see if it's worth your hard-earned money.

4 New Features of Final Cut Pro on the iPad

Final Cut Pro brings the non-linear editor featuring the Magnetic Timeline to the iPad. It will also allow you to make color corrections to your videos. However, Apple built other iPad-specific features like Apple Pencil support, a new jog wheel, and new camera modes.

Apple Pencil Support

Final Cut Pro for iPad offers full support for the Apple Pencil. Live Drawing allows you to draw or write on top of video content inside the editor. The writing or drawing can animate and bring personality to your footage.

On an M2 iPad Pro, Apple Pencil uses the hover feature to scan through a timeline or preview footage without contacting the screen. And if you pair your iPad with a keyboard, you can take advantage of Final Cut Pro's keyboard shortcuts and create new workflows that artists have only dreamed of.

Jog Wheel

Another new addition to Final Cut Pro is the jog wheel. A digital wheel appears on the side of the screen, allowing you to scroll through your timeline clips and make accurate cuts. Apple also promises the jog wheel brings new ways to interact with your projects.

New Camera Modes

Final Cut Pro brings a new pro camera mode to the iPad. Inside the app, you can shoot high-quality video in any orientation, monitor the incoming audio, and see how much recording time you have storage for.

This pro camera mode allows finer camera control than ever on an iPad. This mode lets you control camera settings like focus, exposure, and white balance. You can also record in ProRes, Apple's professional video codec, with an M2 iPad Pro.

Machine Learning

Final Cut Pro brings some new machine-learning tech to video editing. The app lets you easily synchronize and edit multicam clips or footage from multiple viewpoints.

A Scene Removal Mask feature uses machine learning to remove the background of a shot without a green screen. Auto Crop finds the best view of your footage for whatever aspect ratio you are outputting to. So, if you're making the next Hollywood blockbuster or a viral TikTok, the app helps to find the best frames.

3 New Features of Logic Pro on the iPad

Meanwhile, Logic Pro brings music-production tools from the Mac to the iPad. Multi-Touch brings new interactions to Logic Pro. While GarageBand has been on the iPad for years, you still have many reasons to upgrade to Logic Pro.

Pro Instruments and Effects

Logic Pro for Mac has tools for creating digital instruments, but the iPad version uses Multi-Touch to allow you to play instruments on the screen. For example, you can bring up a piano and press the keys or strum a guitar.

Not only can you play the instruments, but you can also manipulate effects like compressors and reverb on the touch surface. This allows the user to control the effects on the screen with precision.

Sound Browser

There's also an all-new sound browser that can help creators design the perfect sound whenever they want, even on the go. The sound browser shows all the instruments & audio patches, plug-in presets, samples, and whatever other sounds you need in one place. It also allows you to try out any of those sounds before adding them to a project.

Pro Mixer

Rounding out the additions is a full-featured mixer. With the entire screen dedicated to your mixer, you can control faders, pans, plug-ins, and more. Using Multi-Touch allows you to move these controls simultaneously, much like a producer would in the studio.

Unleash Your Creative Side With Pro iPad Apps

Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro coming to the iPad enable you to be more creative than before. Both apps have been brought thoughtfully to the iPad with a touch-focused development and feature a price point that can allow you to bring out that professional-level creativity.
