Most of us are well aware that Apple releases a new iPhone every year. And in 2022, we are all eagerly anticipating the launch of the iPhone 14 series, especially the higher-end Pro models, as Apple is known to reserve the best features for the premium market.

So, what kind of cutting-edge technology do we expect from the top-of-the-line iPhone this year, you ask? Well, here’s a look at some key features that we think Apple should bring to the iPhone 14 Pro to make it the ultimate flagship of 2022.

5. More Megapixels

The iPhone 13 Pro is one of the best camera phones out there, but image resolution is one area where it struggles against the competition. Photos you take on the iPhone, when zoomed in, don’t look as good because the camera sensor is only 12 megapixels, whereas Android flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can take 108MP shots.

Apple has stuck with 12MP cameras since the iPhone 6s released in 2015, but we strongly believe it’s time to move on. Even a subtle increase to 24MP would do improve the pictures you take, but Apple has to go above and beyond and incorporate a 48MP sensor into the iPhone 14 Pro to take back the crown from Android flagships.

A 48MP camera would also allow Apple to add 8K video recording, a feature that has been popping up on high-end Android phones in 2022.

4. Titanium Body

Apple has stuck with a polished stainless steel frame since the iPhone X in 2017, and while it does give the phone a high-end feel, this material is a fingerprint magnet. Apple could instead use a titanium alloy frame, which not only resists fingerprints but also make the phone a lot lighter.

Doing this would give the iPhone 14 Pro a fresh new look and bring it up to par with the highest-end Apple Watch, which is also made out of titanium.

3. MagSafe 2

MagSafe charging on iPhone 12

For a wireless charging standard, MagSafe is pretty fast, delivering charging speeds up to 15W. But Apple hasn’t improved this technology since its original introduction in 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 series. And an improvement in this area is of utmost importance, especially considering that Apple has to retire the Lightning port on new devices by 2024 due to the EU’s USB-C ruling.

So, Apple could either incorporate a USB-C port, which is the easy way out, or kill the port altogether by going wireless. And to make that happen, MagSafe technology has to move forward and become faster and to enable data transfer. So, a second-generation MagSafe with speeds up to 20W and data transfer capabilities is something we’d love to see on the iPhone 14 Pro.

2. A Hole-Punch Cutout and Thinner Bezels

Apple hasn’t moved on from the dreaded notch since the iPhone X in 2017, despite the competition advancing to hole-punch cutouts and under-display camera technologies. Although the company made the notch smaller with the iPhone 13 series, we believe it’s time to get rid of it completely.

While we’d ideally prefer a hole-punch cutout like on Android flagships, Apple needs some space to house the Face ID hardware and, therefore, a pill and a hole-punch design seems pretty reasonable. We also want Apple to further trim the bezels on the iPhone 14 Pro to give it a near-bezel-less look and give the S22 Ultra a run for its money in the looks department.

1. 256GB Storage on the Base Model

In 2021, Apple increased the base storage of all the iPhone models to 128GB, but we think the company should bump the base storage of the Pro models to 256GB this year. We don’t feel 128GB is enough for the prosumers in 2022, especially if the camera is getting a megapixel upgrade, as high-resolution images and 8K videos could quickly take up that precious space.

Watch Out for the iPhone 14 Pro

We’re not sure about Apple’s plans for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro, but the features and changes we discussed are exactly what the community expects from Apple. With these new additions, the iPhone 14 Pro has all the potential to be the flagship of the year.

But whether or not the next iPhone includes the aforementioned features is something that only time can tell. So, we’ll wait and see what Apple has in store when the iPhone 14 Pro hits the market in the fall of 2022.
