I'm using MovieMaker right now, and it's been going for over 45 minutes, and it says 71% complete. Is there a faster way to do this?

Movie Maker is not the best for converting. Lot of times, it adds black bars to the videos and can get stuck just trying to render them. I use Hamster Video Converter which is REALLY easy to learn how to use and it supports MOV to WMV conversion, and lots of other formats.

Freemake , like Jeff said, is also pretty intuitive to use, while VirtualDub is pretty amazing, but it doesn't take MOV files (only AVI and MPG) and takes some time to get used to the interface.

Try Freemake Video Converter available at: http://www.freemake.com/.A great little program that convert back and forth between .avi, .mov, .wmv .mp4, and .3gp. It's simple and easy to use. Plus it's free.

I use DVDfab for video conversions. For most jobs of videos under an hour long to similar quality formats are usually finished in under 10 minutes with excellent quality. The only problem is that it'll cost $50 for the full DVD ripper and $40 for the converter. However, if you plan on converting a lot of videos, it's worth it in my opinion because of the speed and quality.
