If you're on a bad date or stuck talking to someone you don't like at a party, it's tough to get out of the situation politely. Escaping to the bathroom will only buy you a few minutes, especially if you're on a date and expected back at the table. Luckily, there's another option for you. There are fake call apps for Android devices that simulate a real phone call to your phone. With an app like this, you can get out of a bad situation in a jiff. And the best part? You don't end up offending the person you're talking to because they think you have to leave for something serious.

1. Fake Call

This is one of the simplest fake call apps for Android out there. The directions are pretty straightforward, but the tradeoff is that the interface is a bit outdated.

When you open the app, you'll see six different buttons you can mess with. The Caller button lets you edit the name, set up a fake number, and add a picture of the fake person that will be calling you. Then, you can either press Call Now to set off a phone call immediately, or you can press Schedule to set up a call for later.

It's worth mentioning that the only scheduled times you can choose from are 10 seconds, 30 seconds, and 1 minute. While this won't work for a planned phone call well in advance for the middle of a date, you can excuse yourself to the bathroom, set it up, and answer it when you come back.

The Character tab gives you a few examples of who you might want a fake call from, like the police, a pizza store, your mom, or your boyfriend. For each character profile, there's a unique name and number that populates in the Caller tab.

Then, you can set the Ringtone to your default ringtone or choose a unique one so you know it's a fake call. You can also pre-record a voice on the Voice tab and use that in the phone call so it sounds more realistic.

2. Fake Caller ID

From the home screen of the Fake Caller ID app, you can see everything you need. The first tab, Caller Info, is where you can change the caller's name and number. There are also options here to select a preloaded character, like mom, girlfriend, or pizza, or even pull someone from your own contacts list. You can also add a picture for an extra element of realness.

If you need a fake call right away, you can press Call Now to trigger a phone call. Or, you can schedule a phone call for later, either setting your own custom time or choosing from preset times, like 30 seconds, one minute, five minutes, 15 minutes, or 30 minutes.

In Advance Settings, you can edit the look of your call screen to look exactly the way you want it to. It can mimic Samsung call screens, as well as generic Android. You can also select a special ringtone for fake calls and record audio to play during any fake calls to make them seem more realistic.

There's also a handy Call History tab so you can see a record of all your fake calls.

Unfortunately, this app has ads and there's no way to pay to get rid of them. After every click, an ad pops up, but after about five seconds, you can close it out.

3. Call Assistant

This is another fake call app that's super simple to use, with a pretty basic user interface. When you open the app, you can instantly see and edit the caller's name and number. You can choose to sort through your contacts to select someone you know, or you can make up a name.

You can add a picture, a voice to go along with the call, and select from a wide variety of different phone call themes. The app has a few different call screen looks for Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, LG, Meizu, OnePlus, iPhone, Nokia, Motorola, and generic Android.

When you click on the Schedule tab at the bottom, you can see a call history, where you can easily duplicate a previous phone call. When you duplicate it, you'll be prompted to select whether you want the same scheduled time limit as last time or a new one.

You can choose Now, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, one minute, five minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or set a custom time.

4. IFTTT

The IFTTT app can certainly help you with escaping an awkward situation with a fake phone call, but it can do so much more than that. IFTTT stands for "If This Then That," which is a common automation command. So pretty much anything you want to automate to make your life easier, IFTTT can probably do it.

But you're here to learn about making fake calls, so let's talk about that specific Applet in the IFTTT app. In the search bar, type "phone call" and then select Phone Call (US Only).

In this section of the app, there are quite a few Applets that you can use with your device's phone app, like scheduling a wake-up call, asking Alexa to call your phone, and getting a phone call if your home alarm is triggered.

There's one Applet, in particular, that's titled Get yourself out of an awkward situation (US Only). Just like the title suggests, this Applet, when connected, triggers a phone call discreetly to get you out of a bad date or a party that's gone on way too long.

There's Nothing Wrong With Using a Fake Call App

Although it would be nice if you were able to withstand every awkward or just plain weird conversation you got yourself into, that's not probable. If the conversation is bad enough, we'll find a way to get out of it, and using a fake call app is one of the nicest ways to do it.

Some people might say that it's rude or deceptive to use a fake call app, but if it lets you escape an awkward or potentially dangerous situation, what's so wrong with it? Also, for those who have social anxiety, having a fake call lined up just in case can ease the nerves. You don't have to answer the fake call, but knowing it's there can be immensely helpful.
