Please help me out. My external hard disk drive tends not to display and whenever I open disk management it keeps telling me to initialize the disk. I chose MBR but still it did not work. It keeps telling me "cyclical redundancy error". It is a 500 GB Toshiba HDD. Please some one help me out.

A CRC error indicates a discrepency in the data, which could mean a fault in the disk (most likely) or a problem in the communication between the drive and the computer (unlikely, but possible). I suggest you test your drive on another computer. If the problem persists, the drive itself is at fault and you'll need to replace it, unfortunately. Check if it's still under warranty though - some drives come with surprisingly long warranties!
