Samsung fans are eagerly waiting for the upcoming flagship Galaxy S23 series, which will launch early in 2023. And it seems there's a lot to be excited about based on the leaks and rumors floating around the web.Here are five top new features you can expect on the Galaxy S23 series.

1. A New 200MP Camera for the Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung first unveiled its 108MP camera with the Galaxy S20 Ultra launched in 2020. Now, the company is set to introduce a new benchmark—its new 200MP sensor with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Some sources say the new 200MP sensor on the S23 Ultra allows it to take significantly more detailed shots with major improvements in low-light conditions.

Credible leaker Ice Universe also pointed out that the default image resolution on the device will be 12MP, meaning it will use pixel binning technology to combine neighboring pixels in a 16-to-1 matrix and chop off the excess megapixels beyond 12MP.

You'll also be able to shoot at 50MP and 200MP, and you can easily zoom into your shots without losing quality. However, the bigger file size will fill your storage faster.

2. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chip for All Regions

Perhaps the best piece of news about the S23 series is that Samsung is using the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip on all S23 models in all regions, including Europe and India which usually get Exynos variants.

We've already explained why people hate Samsung Exynos processors. Having Snapdragon running on all Galaxy S23 models means there will be no variance in performance no matter where you're buying from, resulting in consistent gaming performance, photography, and heat management.

3. Faster Storage and RAM

Along with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the Galaxy S23 series will also introduce the next UFS storage standard UFS 4.0 and faster LPDDR5X RAM. As a reminder, current Samsung flagship phones use the UFS 3.1 standard and LPDDR5 RAM.

To compare, UFS 3.1 offers read and write speeds of up to 2100MB/s and 1200MB/s, whereas the new UFS 4.0 standard promises double the read and write speeds of up to 4200MB/s and 2800MB/s, respectively—all while consuming 46% less power.

LPDDR5X RAM clocks a maximum speed of 8.5Gbps, up from 6.4Gbps achieved by the predecessor LPDDR5. For you, this means a faster user experience, smoother animations, lower latency, and a better gaming experience.

4. Small Design Changes for the S23 Ultra

If you were expecting a new design for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, you might be disappointed to know that most leakers report it'll look almost identical to the Galaxy S22 Ultra with perhaps a slightly bigger camera module.

We're also expecting the sides to be flatter this time, so the front glass will probably be less curved than before. You might be a fan of boxy design, but it can also make the device more uncomfortable to hold—one of the key complaints we have with the S22 Ultra.

5. New Design Changes for S23 and S23+

The base Galaxy S23 and S23+ will sport a new look thanks to the redesigned camera module. Unlike the S22 and S22+ which have the contour-cut design, the S23 and S23+ will imitate the look of the S22 Ultra with the camera lenses protruding outwards.

Based on the renders we've seen, it seems the design looks almost identical to the Galaxy A13 5G which is a budget phone, and some people might not like it. There's conflicting info about the size of the bezels on the handsets, but you can expect symmetrical bezels on both models just like last time.

The Galaxy S23 Will Be Better From the Inside

Samsung hasn't yet confirmed an official release date for the Galaxy S23 series, but based on past launches, it's safe to assume a February 2023 launch. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and higher-resolution camera suggests the Galaxy S23 series is shaping up to be quite a powerful upgrade over its predecessor.
