How to Use Burst Mode on an iPhone

Burst mode is an easy-to-use feature on your iPhone's camera, which takes multiple photos at high-speed. It's an excellent option if you want a range of shots to choose from. Depending on the model of iPhone, there are several ways to activate Burst mode.

Burst Mode on iPhone XS and Later

  • Open the Camera app.
  • The app will automatically open in Photo mode. If any other mode is selected, swipe left or right until Photo is highlighted.
  • When ready, swipe the shutter button to the left to take Burst mode shots.
  • Lift your finger from the screen when you want to stop shooting.

Burst Mode on iPhone X and Earlier

  • Open the Camera app.
  • The app will automatically open in Photo mode. If any other mode is selected, swipe left or right until Photo is highlighted.
  • When ready, touch and hold the shutter button take Burst mode shots.
  • Lift your finger from the screen when you want to stop shooting.

Activate Burst Mode With Volume Buttons

It isn't always practical to hold your finger down on the shutter button while taking a photo, especially for raised angle shots like selfies. There is an alternative way to start Burst mode on the iPhone XS and later, but you have to enable it first in your iPhone's Settings.

  • Open Settings.
  • Scroll to Camera and tap to select.
  • Toggle on the Use Volume Up for Burst toggle option.
  • Open the Camera app.
  • With Photo mode selected, press and hold the Volume Up button to activate Burst Mode.
  • Lift your finger from the button to stop shooting.
